Windmill Ruin on Chlumky

The ruin of the Příčovy windmill is a massive, circular structure with a diameter of 14 metres. It stands on Chlumky Hill, at an elevation of 400 metres west of Příčovy, overlooking the village. A Dutch-style windmill, it is a unique technical monument of its kind in the Czech Republic; flour was once ground here. The structure can therefore be viewed through its shape and former function: its circular ground plan defines the ruin, while its former flour production connects it to the history of technology. The windmill site is freely accessible in summer and winter. Anyone wishing to combine cultural history with a tangible architectural discovery will find a clear focal point for their stay here.

Příčovy Castle and the Chapel

Příčovy Castle offers an architectural counterpoint to the windmill ruin: the single-storey building has a double mansard roof. However, access is key when planning a visit. The castle is not normally open to the public; check again before planning a visit to see whether access is possible. A schedule set out in the 2021–2035 strategic plan lists visits to the castle chapel during Holy Mass at the Příčovy pilgrimage, 14 days after Easter, on Saturdays from 3 p.m., as well as during the Advent concerts on every Advent Saturday from 4 p.m. The chapel is therefore open for specific occasions and should not be understood as general access to the castle. As the schedule may change, check the dates before your trip. When planning, it is therefore useful to treat the castle’s architecture and a possible, time-specific chapel visit as separate considerations.

Cycling and Hiking Trails

Two routes for cycling and hiking are described in Příčovy, each with a different designation. Marked cycle route 8133 runs between Sedlčany and Chramosty via Příčovy. The May 2017 land-use plan provides for its retention as an existing route; check the current route status before setting out. The yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Příčovy to Kňovičky and follows existing local and purpose-built paths. Information on trail surfaces and access is based on municipal planning from May 2017; check current conditions before setting out. The destinations provide a practical distinction: Sedlčany and Chramosty are the endpoints of the cycle route, while the hiking trail leads to Kňovičky. When choosing, you can therefore take into account both your preferred mode of travel and your destination.

Choose Příčovy as Your Place to Stay

When looking for a holiday apartment in Příčovy, the conditions for visiting local attractions can help guide your decision. The windmill ruin is freely accessible in summer and winter; public access to the castle is usually restricted, while visits to the chapel are limited to specific occasions. For an activity-focused stay, you can choose between the cycle route and hiking trail based on your destination and preferred mode of travel. This lets you tailor your search to whether your trip is driven more by the history of technology, a possible chapel visit or one of the routes.
