Notable local features in Modřovice include three cast-iron crosses near house numbers 41, 18 and 15; the first written record dates from 1367. Other points of interest include the seventh station on the pilgrimage route from Březnice to Svatá Hora, the Modřejka stream and Hrádecký Pond in the village centre. These themes range from local history and religious imagery to waterways—offering different starting points as you consider which local discoveries might shape your stay.

Traces of Local History

The first written record of Modřovice dates from 1367 and records the appointment of the priest Matěj to the parish of Třebsko. The Modřovice fortress probably fell into ruin after 1510. These details refer to different events: the 1367 record concerns the ecclesiastical appointment, while the fortress is thought to have fallen into ruin only after 1510.

A granary known as a “špejchar” stands on the site of the former fortress in the southwest of Modřovice; opposite it is a former sheepfold. This spatial relationship locates two distinct buildings: the granary on the former fortress site and the sheepfold opposite.

Crosses and the Pilgrimage Route

Three cast-iron crosses stand in the centre of Modřovice near house numbers 41, 18 and 15. The year 1883 is engraved on the cross by house number 15; the stone base bearing this year was moved to Holý vrch in 2017. The dates refer to different details: 1883 to the inscription on the cross, and 2017 to the relocation of the base.

The pilgrimage route runs from Březnice to Svatá Hora; its seventh station is in the cadastral area of Modřovice. Facing Příbram, it depicts the arrest of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane; on the return journey, it depicts Saint Agnes of Bohemia, patron saint of Bohemia. The religious images are therefore linked to the direction of travel.

The pilgrimage route’s eighth chapel has not survived. Its state of preservation therefore differs from the images at the seventh station—two distinct aspects of the pilgrimage route in Modřovice.

Waterways and Regional Orientation

The Modřejka flows through Modřovice, while Hrádecký Pond lies in the village centre. The stream runs through the village, while the pond is a central landmark: two distinct landscape features to help you find your way.

Road III/1911 runs from Příbram via Třebsko, Modřovice and Chrást to Březnice. This sequence places the village along a named regional road route; the stream and pond, by contrast, are local landscape features. Regional orientation and the waterways in the village can thus be considered at different levels.

When choosing where to stay, you can weigh the local features according to two themes: the crosses, former fortress and pilgrimage route represent cultural history; the Modřejka and Hrádecký Pond represent the waterways in the village.
