Jince lies on the edge of the Brdy Protected Landscape Area, and the Litavka River flows through the town. Hiking trails, cultural history and a natural swimming area offer a variety of ways to spend your time. The named starting points are useful for planning: the “Z Jinec na Olymp Brd” educational trail starts at the railway station, while two other routes start at the U mostu trail junction. You can plan your stay around a hike, historical topics or a combination of the two.

Hiking Trails and Starting Points

The “Z Jinec na Olymp Brd” educational trail starts at Jince railway station. It is 17.3 kilometres long and has 16 information panels. Its length is a specific figure to factor into your day’s planning; the panels also give the trail an educational dimension. If you choose this trail, you can take both the distance and the information points into account when planning.

The “Za jineckými trilobity” route starts on the green-marked hiking trail at the U mostu trail junction. “Plešivecká Odyssea” also starts at the U mostu trail junction, which is in the centre of Jince. The three routes therefore already differ in their named starting points: the railway station or U mostu. For easier navigation, it is a good idea to include the relevant starting point in your plans in advance.

Cultural History in Jince

Josef Slavík was born in Jince, in house No. 8. The annual “Slavíkovy Jince” concert at the Společenské centrum also commemorates him. If you would like to include the concert in your travel plans, check the current dates separately.

The Church of St. Nicholas is a protected cultural monument, documented as early as 1352. The parish Church of St. Nicholas is wheelchair accessible. Since practical information about access can change, check the details before your visit. The church is a distinct historical landmark in the town, and its earliest recorded mention reaches far back into Jince’s history.

Another testament to the town’s history is Huť Barbora. It is a cultural monument and the last surviving charcoal-fired Valon furnace. Guided tours with commentary are offered at Huť Barbora; check seasonal arrangements before your trip. In Jince, you can encounter different aspects of cultural heritage: the history of the church, Josef Slavík’s life and the industrial past of the works.

Natural Swimming Area and Getting There

Biotop Jince is a natural swimming area with a natural water purification system. The grounds include a well-maintained lawn and a volleyball court. The swimming area offers a different focus from the routes: here, the emphasis is on the water and use of the grounds, rather than on covering a trail. When planning, you can decide whether to spend more time hiking, at the swimming area or exploring cultural topics.

Jince railway station is on line 200 between Beroun and Protivín; the line continues towards Praha and České Budějovice. Check travel connections before departure. The railway station is also the starting point for the “Z Jinec na Olymp Brd” educational trail, so your travel and route planning can both be based around the same location.
