The Church of St. John the Baptist is Počepice’s most important landmark and a point of reference for the village’s history. The Stations of the Cross begin nearby; Cycle Route 8144 runs through the village and connects several stops. This gives you a choice of different focuses for planning your trip: architectural history, hiking and cycling. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider which of these interests you want to shape your stay.

Church, Rectory and Film History

The church dates from the first half of the 14th century and was originally Gothic. In 1790, it was remodelled from the Gothic into the Baroque style. Its medieval origins and a transformation several centuries later stand side by side—a tangible point of reference if you are interested in the village’s architecture.

The rectory also has a specific place in history: Ferdinand von Lobkowicz had it built in 1775. The rectory at Počepice 29 houses the Chapel of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. It was blessed on 9 September 2017. The chapel is not wheelchair accessible.

The village’s history also includes the film Farářův konec, which was filmed in Počepice with Vlastimil Brodský in the lead role. This extends the cultural perspective beyond the buildings to the village’s film history.

U svatých: Two Statues, Two Dates

The U svatých statue group is located on Road 105, about 1.3 km from the village centre in the direction of Vysoký Chlumec. It consists of statues of St. Procopius and St. John of Nepomuk. The statue of St. Procopius dates from the second quarter of the 18th century; the statue of St. John of Nepomuk was made after the middle of the 18th century. Both figures therefore date from the 18th century, but from different periods—a precise comparison for anyone interested in the local sculptures.

On Foot on Radešín or by Bike on Route 8144

The Stations of the Cross begin near the Church of St. John the Baptist and ascend the southeastern slope of Radešín. Stone crosses decorated with pictures painted by children from a school in Sedlčany stand along the route. The trail ends at Kalvárie, from where there are views of Počepice and the surrounding countryside. Before setting out, it is advisable to check the route and trail conditions locally.

A different route option is the six-kilometre Cycle Route 8144. It connects Veselíčko, Počepice and Skoupý and links Cycle Routes 8139 and 8143. From Veselíčko, it runs via Skuhrov and Počepice, as well as Vitín, to Skoupý. Unlike the Stations of the Cross, which climb Radešín, Route 8144 is described as connecting several villages. You can then decide whether to include a walk associated with the church or the cycling route described here in your plans.
