Mokrovraty brings together historical themes and natural surroundings: the Plechhamer Mill and traces of the former Královská stolice hunting preserve lead to different chapters in the town’s history; a marked hiking trail and nearby forests add to the choice of outdoor activities. Bus and train services are also part of the public transport options to consider.

Plechhamer Mill and its former names

Plechhamer Mill was built in 1707 in the picturesque valley of the Kocába River, near the former settlement of Pustiny. The settlement was later renamed Pouště. This means that two dates in history stand side by side: 1707 is the year the mill was built, while Pustiny was the settlement’s earlier name and Pouště its later one. When exploring local history, you can thus distinguish the building’s history from the change in the settlement’s name.

Královská stolice: Enclosure and pavilion

The former Královská stolice hunting preserve extended as far as Mokrovraty. Remains of the pillars from its original enclosure, dating to 1766, can still be seen today. The central pavilion of the preserve was made of birch trunks and has since been restored in a different form. Unlike the mill’s construction date, the year 1766 refers to the original enclosure, not the pavilion.

Chapel and biocentres in Pouště

The Chapel of sv. Jana Křtitele is located in Mokrovraty, in Pouště. The regional biocentres of Holcovská and Kazatelna also extend into the Pouště district. The points of interest here range from a named religious building to two ecological areas in the same district.

Hill and furnace remains

Another landmark is a hill standing alone, 393 m high. The remains of the furnace form its summit; the hill lies halfway between Mokrovraty railway stop and Dolní Tušimský Pond. These remains are considered the only ones in the wider area.

Hiking and forests

A marked hiking trail passes through Mokrovraty. Dense forests lie nearby, offering opportunities for active recreation and for picking mushrooms and other forest produce. The trail and the forests offer different ways to enjoy the outdoors: a route through Mokrovraty on the one hand, and opportunities for recreation and foraging nearby on the other.

Getting there by bus and train

Mokrovraty has bus stops along road II/114; public transport is provided by buses and supplemented by rail services. Mokrovraty stop is on the single-track Praha-Vršovice–Praha-Bráník–Měchenice–Dobříš line. If you are planning to travel by bus or train, check the timetables for your travel date in advance.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Mokrovraty, you can consider whether you are more interested in local history, hiking or the nearby forests.
