Hrimezdice combines architectural history with its own story centred on the quarry. St. Anne’s Church, the chateau and a statue on the bridge over the village stream offer different points of interest. The village is close to the Slapy Reservoir.

The chateau and the church: two historical dates

Hrimezdice Chateau is a simple, single-storey building in the Neoclassical Baroque style. It is first mentioned in 1788. St. Anne’s Church was built in 1797. The dates are close together, but refer to different things: 1788 is the chateau’s first recorded mention, while 1797 is the year the church was built. This distinction helps establish the chronology; a first mention is not the same as the year of construction.

The architecture of St. Anne’s Church

The church has a single nave. Its presbytery, or chancel, has a three-sided exterior termination; the tower is topped with a bell-shaped roof. Alongside the construction date, these features give a more precise impression of the building: its floor plan, the termination of the presbytery and the shape of the tower can be considered separately. Some of the interior furnishings come from the former Pauline monastery in Obořiště. Thus, in addition to its architectural history, the church has a connection to the origins of part of its furnishings.

A monument by the stream and the quarry on the edge of the village

Near the church, a statue of St. John of Nepomuk stands on the bridge over the stream that flows through the municipality. The monument is therefore located at a specific spot in the village: on the bridge over the stream, near the church.

Hrimezdice Quarry, also known as Kujalův Quarry, lies on the northeastern edge of the village. Its history offers a different focus from the architectural history in the village centre: here, the story is about diving training, a swing at the former helicopter site and the Highjump event.

Diving history and Highjump

The first major diving course at the quarry took place in 1959. It was led by experienced instructors who had gained their experience in Germany. SVAZARM also established a training centre for military and police divers at the quarry. The course and the training centre are two distinct milestones in the village’s diving history.

Since 2001, there has been a large swing at the quarry’s former helicopter site. Highjump, an event featuring jumps into the water, has been held annually since 2000 around the turn of July and August. The dates therefore refer to different things: the swing has been there since 2001, while Highjump is described as a recurring annual event.

Plan your stay around your interests and dates

Visitors particularly interested in architecture will find two different historical points of interest in the chateau and St. Anne’s Church. For travellers planning their dates around Highjump, the event itself is the more important timing reference: check the event dates before booking your holiday apartment.
