Historic castle rooms, a city museum and trails with different themes give Dobříš a varied character. You can choose between cultural history in the centre, interactive activities and nature stops. When planning, it is worth looking at the focus of each place and route: their names, stops and content differ considerably.

Dobříš Castle: historic rooms and a modern exhibition

The castle took on its present appearance during its reconstruction from 1745 to 1765, after an earlier fire had almost destroyed the building. The Colloredo-Mannsfeld exhibition is on the first floor of the south wing. There, rooms furnished in a contemporary style, as they probably looked in the 17th and 18th centuries, stand alongside modern spaces featuring large touchscreens and projections. Historic interiors and digital displays are thus presented side by side in one exhibition.

For the interactive tour, you can use the audio guide on your own phone or borrow an MP4 player free of charge at the exhibition entrance. The French Park adds a landscaped feature to the castle: covering two hectares, it is considered a rare example of Rococo garden architecture. In the castle Orangery, you will find interactive exhibitions for the whole family, the Zdeněk and Emilie Miler Gallery, and an exhibition about the castle gardens.

City history at the museum and along the way

The Muzeum města Dobříše is housed in the late Baroque Kopáčkův dům, whose history dates back to the 15th century. The museum also offers “Exponáty v ulicích,” an interactive outdoor game with QR codes at each stop. The route is approximately 2.5 kilometres long and takes about 40 minutes on foot. Allow extra time for solving the puzzles and searching for the QR codes. The walking time alone therefore does not reflect the total time needed for the game.

For a walk focusing on historical themes in the centre, the Small Circuit (Malý okruh) is a good choice. Its 21 stops provide information about historic places in the city. A second city walk leaves the centre and leads to quieter neighbourhoods; its 18 stops cover Dobříš’s industry and the surrounding nature. The two routes therefore have different focuses: one on historic places in the centre, the other on industry and nature beyond it.

Trails with nature and cultural themes

If you would rather focus on the surroundings and nature, the other trails also differ in content. The Lesní stezka leaves the built-up area and leads into nature. Its 15 stops introduce remarkable natural and cultural-historical sites around Dobříš. The Dobříšská stezka poznání, also called Dobříšova stezka, opened on 1 April 2025. Its information boards cover animals, birds, plants and trees.

The options can therefore be matched to specific interests: the castle exhibition and Orangery combine different forms of cultural interpretation; the museum game and city walks explore history and themes within the city; and the Lesní stezka and Dobříšská stezka poznání focus on nature and knowledge about plant and animal life. When choosing a route, its number of stops and the topics covered can help—and, for the museum game, so can the approximate walking time plus extra time for the puzzles.
