Those interested in local history and the rural surroundings can plan a visit to Sovínky around specific sites and routes. The historic settlement pattern, castle and church, cycling route and valley paths, as well as the nearby Syslov fortification, offer different points of interest.

Landscape and Character of the Village

Sovínky is part of a historic, relatively regular pattern of village settlements amid agricultural land. Forest and natural areas lie in the southern part of the cadastral area; to the west there is a watercourse that flows intermittently and a water reservoir. This gives a clearer picture of the rural setting: the settlement pattern lies within an agricultural landscape, while forest and natural areas are in the south and water features are in the west of the cadastral area.

Hydrologically, Sovínky belongs to the Košátecký potok catchment. The area also lies within the Severočeská křída protected area, which serves as a natural groundwater recharge zone. The link to Košátecký potok describes the hydrological setting; the protected area concerns natural groundwater recharge.

Cycling Route and Walking Paths

Marked cycling route No. 8158 runs through the Sovínky area, from Bezno towards Zamachy and onward towards Kokořínsko. Walking paths lead from Sovínky through the valley towards the nearest villages of Krušiny and Doubravička. The way to get around depends on your mode of travel: cyclists have a named, marked route, while for walkers the valley and the two destination villages are the main reference points. When planning, you can first decide whether you want to focus on the cycling route or the paths through the valley.

Local History and Fortifications

Sovínky was first mentioned in writing in 1360. In 1654, the village was granted the privilege of holding a weekly market and two annual fairs. These dates mark different historical milestones: 1360 is the first written mention, and 1654 the market privilege. Sovínky Castle and its church were converted from a building belonging to the farmstead at the beginning of the 20th century. A former fortification near Sovínky Castle was demolished in 1975 and completely removed from the village landscape.

Syslov is a fortification on a spur of land near Sovínky. Its core area, damaged by excavations, and a wide neck ditch with a rampart have survived. Unlike the demolished fortification near Sovínky Castle, structural remains can still be seen at Syslov. The two sites therefore represent different historical evidence: one fortification has been removed from the village landscape, while parts of the other remain on a spur of land.
