Rokytovec can be explored from two perspectives: its local history and its surrounding landscape. The first written record dates back to 1322; at the same time, fields surround the village on three sides, with a forest to the northwest. Its cultural history includes a fortress, a granary, and a theatrical backdrop. These details show Rokytovec from different angles: through an early written mention, architectural traces, theatre, and landscape features.
From the First Written Record to the Fortress
The first written mention of Rokytovec dates from 1322, when Mikota of Rokytovec was named. In 1556, Václav Procek of Cetně had the Rokytovec fortress built. Mikota belongs to the early written record, while Procek is associated with the later construction; more than two centuries separate the two dates. After the fortress lost its significance, it was probably demolished or converted into a granary.
The Granary and a Possible Trace of the Fortress
The centrally located granary is 8.5 metres wide and 24.5 metres long; its older section measures 17.5 metres. It is therefore almost three times as long as it is wide. A cellar from the former fortress may have survived beneath the granary. This possible connection to the cellar leads the visitor’s thoughts from the granary back to the history of the fortifications.
Theatrical Backdrop and Amateur Theatre
Rokytovec’s theatrical backdrop adds a designed stage setting to the village’s history. It was designed by academic painter Karel Boháček and painted in 1920. Its title is “Setkání vesničanů s Múzami”. The year 1920 came long after the fortress was built in 1556; a building and a later theatrical object thus represent different eras. Performances by the amateur theatre group also form part of the theatre’s history: they were well received by local residents and people from the surrounding area. While the fortress and granary are architectural traces, the backdrop and amateur theatre point to two sides of theatrical life: the stage setting and the audiences at the performances.
Fields, Forest, and the Řehnický Stream
The landscape adds specific points of reference to the historical and cultural themes. Fields surround Rokytovec on three sides; a low-lying forest lies to the northwest, with the Řehnický Stream flowing through it. The three field-lined sides describe the village’s surroundings, while the cardinal direction locates the forest and stream. In this way, the fields and the northwestern forest with its watercourse provide two distinct landscape features.
Nohejbal Tournament as a Scheduled Event
The Nohejbal tournament is a sporting event offering an opportunity for active recreation. Its 23rd edition was scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on 5 September 2026 at the local sports ground and club facilities. The tournament is therefore a time-specific event alongside the village’s historical themes. If a tournament date matters for your trip, check suitable event dates before making plans.
