Bradlec lies on a volcanic hill above the Jizera Valley. From here, views stretch from České středohoří across the Jizerské hory to the Krkonoše Mountains (Giant Mountains). The scenic setting is complemented by specific destinations by the water, at the sports complex and at historic sites. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between their different uses.

Water: swimming and sport fishing

Švardův lom is a flooded former basalt quarry used as a natural outdoor swimming area. A footbridge crosses the quarry and connects the two banks designated for recreation. Swimming and the footbridge linking the banks are therefore among this place’s defining features. Sport fishing takes place at Totův lom. The choice of focus is clear: swimming is the main activity at Švardův lom, while Totův lom is for sport fishing.

Sports facilities and cycling routes

Bradlec’s sports complex includes a football pitch, a beach volleyball court, an asphalt court, a tennis court, and two courts for volleyball and nohejbal. The complex also has a sports clubhouse with changing rooms, showers, toilets and a kitchen. The asphalt court is freely accessible at no charge and without a reservation. Check before your visit whether this access policy is still in effect.

Cycling routes connect Bradlec with Kosmonosy and Mladá Boleslav. This differs from the facilities at the sports complex: the cycling routes connect places, while the complex brings together various sports facilities in one location. If you plan to explore Bradlec by bicycle, Kosmonosy and Mladá Boleslav are the two destinations specifically linked by the routes.

Monuments and local traditions

Křížek, a stone cross at the junction of K Oboře and Bezdězská streets, is Bradlec’s oldest monument. It has stood at its present location since the second half of the 18th century. In 1882, the municipality had the cross repaired for 228 gulden and 73 kreuzer and solemnly consecrated.

On Bezdězská Street stands a small chapel with a bell tower, probably built around 1840; its exact age is unknown. The chapel is also used when residents die: the death bell is rung there, and death notices are posted on its door. Ask locally if this practice is relevant to your visit.

The war memorial commemorates 17 Bradlec residents who fell in the First and Second World Wars. A local tradition also marks the course of the year: the ceremonial lighting of the Christmas tree, together with a St. Nicholas gift-giving event for children, has a long tradition in Bradlec. If you would like to visit for this event, check in advance whether it will take place during your travel dates and when.
