Zakopaná and Příhrazské skály

Zakopaná is one of the boundary points of the Příhrazské skály Nature Reserve. The rock complex lies between Dneboh, Olšina, Mužský, Příhrazy, Zakopaná and Srbsko. It consists of rock cities with neovolcanic bodies and includes 178 towers and marginal massifs. The landscape therefore extends beyond a single rock group: different rock cities and geological formations shape the natural area. Choosing Zakopaná as a base thus goes hand in hand with a specific interest in rock landscapes and geology.

Another geological feature is a volcanic dike in the area of Branžež and Zakopaná. It is 2.5 kilometres long, 3 metres thick and runs in a WSW–ENE direction. Its length and orientation complement the towers and marginal massifs with a different geological formation. WSW stands for west-southwest, ENE for east-northeast.

Hiking, Views and History

An approximately nine-kilometre circular trail starts in Zakopaná and includes a detour to the ruins of Hynšta. Its approximate length gives you an idea when choosing a route; the detour adds a historic point of interest to the trail. Access conditions may vary, so check local trail conditions before setting out.

The Zakopaná bus stop is considered a particularly suitable starting point for an excursion to Příhrazské skály. Tourist bus services are seasonal, so check the timetable before travelling. This lets you plan your journey according to the actual time of year.

Mužský also offers a scenic and historical point of interest. The basalt summit affords views of the Krkonoše Mountains (Giant Mountains). A monument near Zakopaná, on Mužský, commemorates a battle fought there in 1866 during the Austro-Prussian War. The views and the memorial offer two distinct reasons to visit.

Komárovský Pond and the Landscape of Branžež

Komárovský Pond lies between Branžež, Zakopaná and Srbsko. Its surroundings are a centre for tourism and offer opportunities for camping and water sports. This adds water-based activities to the rock and hiking destinations.

Zakopaná belongs to the municipality of Branžež. Pine forests grow on sandy ground in the municipality, and sandstone rocks are scattered throughout the surrounding picturesque valleys. These features complement the rock cities with further landscape forms and give the region a varied geological character.

Tailor Your Stay to Your Interests

When looking for a holiday apartment in Zakopaná, you can first decide what you are most interested in: rock landscapes and the circular trail, the views and history at Mužský, or camping and water sports around Komárovský Pond. Comparing these options can help you plan your trip around your interests and choose your destinations thoughtfully.
