Charvatce offers several different reasons to visit: a lookout tower with a covered platform, a pond with an ecological function that is also used for swimming in summer, and cycling routes through the built-up area. The town’s history is also clearly documented by an early written mention.

Lookout Tower with Panoramic Views

The rozhledna Charvatce is a 14-metre-high metal lookout tower built in 2020 and fully clad in larch boards. A spiral metal staircase leads up to a covered viewing platform at a height of 12 metres. From there, panoramic views extend across the entire municipality.

The two height figures refer to different parts of the structure: 14 metres is the height of the tower, while 12 metres is the height of the platform. This distinguishes the structure’s overall height from the level of the viewpoint.

By Velký Záhumenný Pond

At the edge of Charvatce, a paved path runs along the dam of Velký Záhumenný Pond. It starts from road II/275 on the outskirts of the village. The condition of the path may change; if you plan to use it, check the latest conditions before your visit.

The pond plays an important role in water retention and provides a refuge for animals. It is also used for swimming in summer. Its ecological function and seasonal use are two separate aspects of the body of water. If swimming is important to your stay, check the current conditions in advance.

Cycling and Getting There

Several cycling routes pass through the built-up area of Charvatce. Route alignments may be revised, so check the specific route before planning a cycling trip.

Charvatce can only be reached by private car or public bus. If travelling by bus, check the timetable to suit your visit. This lets you plan your journey according to your preferred mode of transport, while the route on the ground is a separate consideration when planning a specific cycling trip.

Local History and Orientation

The earliest surviving written mention of Charvatce dates from 1382. It names Arnošt z Charvatec as the owner of the estate. The year marks the oldest surviving written record, not necessarily the founding of the village. Children’s Day on 2 September marked the end of the summer holidays; around 30 children from Charvatce and the surrounding area took part. A traditional Hodovačka was also held in April 2023. Check specific event dates before travelling.

One linguistic interpretation links the name Charvatce to the Slavic tribe of the Charváti. There is also a newly built children’s playground in the lower part of the settlement.
