Jungbunzlau can be explored through a range of themes: the history of Škoda production, the castle and its museums, late Gothic urban architecture, and aviation. A nature trail for children in Lesopark Štěpánka offers another distinctive focus. For planning, the main thing is to arrange your visit to the production sites well in advance; the museums and other venues each offer their own historical or thematic perspectives.
Plan ahead for Škoda history
Tours of the Škoda production sites in Mladá Boleslav are available Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. They must be booked several days or even weeks in advance. If you plan to visit, check the current schedule and booking conditions beforehand.
The Škoda Museum opened in 1995 to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the automobile company. It is located in former production buildings dating from 1899 to 1911. A visit about Škoda’s history therefore includes both the company’s development and buildings from its former production operations.
Castle, exhibitions, and city history
The origins of “Mladoboleslavský hrad” date back to the second half of the 10th century. They are linked to the establishment of a fortified settlement. The Muzeum Mladoboleslavska presents permanent and temporary exhibitions in the castle rooms. An exhibition on the region’s history covers, among other things, rural administration, social life and celebrations, folk costumes, and rural interiors. Other topics include industry, transport, agriculture, and small-scale urban and rural trades.
The Městský palác Templ is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Mladá Boleslav and a rare example of a late Gothic urban noble residence. The building houses an archaeological museum exhibition. The permanent multimedia exhibition traces the city’s history from prehistory through to 1600. At the Templ, archaeological topics are therefore presented alongside a broad overview of the city’s history over time.
Aviation from its beginnings to the present day
The Letecké muzeum Metoděje Vlacha is dedicated to aviation from its beginnings to the present day. It offers two simulators for open-cockpit biplanes. Visitors can fly them under a pilot’s supervision. If you plan to try this experience, check the simulators’ current availability before your visit.
Two activities for children with different themes
In the Veverkov area of Lesopark Štěpánka, a nature trail for children leads on a short walk to a total of ten stations made entirely of wood. They focus on squirrels and other forest inhabitants. The Parkán of Městský palác Templ offers a different experience: it is designed as an interactive playground where children can try their hand at archaeological work.
The two activities have different focuses: Lesopark features forest animals and a short trail with stations, while Parkán offers the chance to try archaeological work through play. Together with the museums and aviation attractions, they offer a range of options for different interests without forming a fixed itinerary.
