A niche chapel beneath a mature lime tree and a wooden fork-type bell tower are part of a protected heritage site in Nová Telib. The bell tower stands about two metres east of the chapel. The village and landscape offer two distinct focal points for planning a trip: architectural and local history on the one hand, ridges and hiking trails on the other.

The Chapel and Bell Tower in the Heritage Site

A new bell dedicated to Saint Peter, weighing 18 kilograms, was cast for the bell tower. The niche chapel also has a complex history: it may date from the 16th century, but the expressive quality of its sculptures suggests that it was created around the middle of the 18th century. Both dates form part of its historical profile. Several timber-framed vernacular buildings remain part of Nová Telib’s traditional village character.

The earliest written history of the original settlement includes its oldest recorded owner, documented in 1378 and 1390. Together with the protected site and traditional buildings, this creates a cultural theme that extends beyond the chapel itself. Those interested in architectural styles and the development of small villages will find several specific points of interest here, rather than just one historic building.

Landscape Between the Hollow and the Ridges

Nová Telib lies in the Dolnojizerská tabule on a plateau at the end of the valley of the Žerčický potok stream. At the same time, the village is situated in a broad hollow above the stream’s source area. The municipality lies on the southern slopes of the Chloumecký hřbet; the settlement itself is set among rounded ridges that are mostly wooded. These details describe different aspects of the landscape: the location of the village, the extent of the municipal area and the shape of the surrounding high ground.

The Chlum Nature Park surrounds Nová Telib and gives it a peaceful setting of coniferous and deciduous forests. To the north, Telib, at 322 metres above sea level, is the highest point near Nová Telib. The destination is defined not only by its buildings: the hollow, source area and ridges also form part of the village’s character.

Hiking Trail and Getting There

A blue-marked hiking trail runs from Mladá Boleslav via Holé Vrchy, Dolánky and Kladěruby to Nová Telib, and continues to Lhotky. In the summit area, the trail passes through the nature park and along the slopes of the Chloumecký hřbet. These named stops give the hiking route a specific direction; those choosing to stay in Nová Telib can distinguish between a focus on local history and one on hiking.

On weekdays, bus route 260980 runs from Mladá Boleslav via Nová Telib and Kobylnice to Žerčice, with five trips in each direction. As transport information can change, check the current timetable before travelling. There are small public parking areas by the inn in the village centre. Capacity and availability may also change, so take this into account when planning your journey.

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider which part of your stay matters most to you: the protected heritage site and traditional architecture, or the blue-marked trail and the nature park landscape. This distinction can help you decide on the focus of your stay without having to combine culture and hiking into a set daily itinerary.
