Domousnice combines a gently hilly landscape with castle history, winegrowing and a hiking trail through Jabkenicko Nature Park. This gives you several distinct points to consider when planning your trip: the landscape north of the town, the castle’s historical sites or winegrowing. Weighing these aspects against each other can help you decide what you want your stay to focus on.
Hilly Landscape and Hiking Trail
Domousnice lies in a gently hilly landscape, where forests give way to areas of farmland and meadows. At 365.5 m above sea level, MĂlová HĹŻra is the highest point on the northeastern side of Domousnice. A municipal planning report from 2022 describes views to the north across the layered horizons of ÄŚeskĂ˝ ráj, its foothills and mountain ranges. MĂlová HĹŻra is therefore a clearly identified high point; the horizons described to the north open up a broader view of the landscape.
A green-marked hiking trail leads from Domousnice through Jabkenicko Nature Park to Jabkenická obora. With the nature park as the route and Jabkenická obora as its destination, the trail is clearly defined; alongside the northern long-distance views, it offers a route through the landscape. If hiking is a priority for your trip, you can plan this trail as a focus in its own right. It offers a different perspective from the castle’s history and its connection to the historic park.
Castle History and Park
The history of the castle grounds can be traced through three dates. Records show that in 1405, Karel Haras z Bosyně owned the estate and part of the noble stronghold that stood on the site of today’s Domousnice Castle. The present-day castle was created around 1730 by converting an older manor house. The stronghold on the site and its conversion into the present-day castle were two distinct building phases. In 1911, the singer Ema Destinnová’s father, Mr Kittl, chose Domousnice Castle for her summer stay. This later episode adds a biographical connection to the building’s history.
The castle park also has its own cultural connection: its design is attributed to Jan Petr RašĂn. The park includes trees with memorial status, as well as statues of a woman in antique dress, a bearded man and the Virgin Mary. These details add designed park features and named figures to the castle’s chronology.
Winegrowing and Tastings
Zámecké vinařstvà Munzar is another local connection to winegrowing. The winery in Domousnice was founded in 2004; a 2021 wine-region directory lists 7 ha of vineyards. For wine tastings, a 2021 tourist directory lists three options: individuals without advance booking, individuals with advance booking, and groups of fewer than 30 people with advance booking. Conditions differ depending on the type of visit. If you want to make a tasting a definite part of your plans, confirm your preferred option before travelling.
