An 18th-century church, the history of a rural noble estate and a cycling route through Nebovidy offer different perspectives on the town. There is also a rare Neolithic find, now kept in Kolín. For planning your trip, you can focus on two themes: cultural history and cycling.

Church of St Peter and Paul

The Church of St Peter and Paul was built between 1749 and 1758 to replace an older church that had been destroyed. It was designed by the Baroque architect Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer. The construction dates of the present building and the history of its older predecessor both help place the church in context.

The building has a single nave and a narrower presbytery, two sacristies and a prismatic west tower. “Single nave” describes the church’s main interior layout; the narrower presbytery is the choir area. The sacristies add to the floor plan, while the prismatic tower stands on the west side. A stone perimeter wall with a gate and a small entrance encloses the church grounds. This brings both the building’s layout and the enclosure of its grounds into view.

Fortress history across different periods

The Nebovidská tvrz was probably built in the second half of the 14th century. It illustrates the character of a rural estate belonging to the lower nobility at the beginning of the Early Modern period and is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The probable date and the historical context answer different questions: they point to the possible origins of the site and to the character of the estate in its Early Modern context. By comparison, the Church of St Peter and Paul was built in the 18th century. The two building histories therefore reflect different periods in the history of the town.

The remains of the upper Okrouhlá fortress in Nebovidy are on private property; the cellar cannot be entered. Conditions may change, so check the current situation before visiting.

An archaeological find and a cycling route

The Nebovidská Venuše is a rare Neolithic female clay torso. It was found near Nebovidy and is now part of the archaeological collections of the Regional Museum of Kolín. The findspot and its present collection location are two distinct points of reference: the find connects the area around Nebovidy with an object now held in a collection in Kolín.

For travellers who want to include cycling in their plans, the local Ratbořský okruh cycling route is a specific option: it passes through Nebovidy. Check current route conditions before setting out.
