Klučov combines early fortification history with winegrowing and a hiking trail. This gives you three distinct focuses to choose from when planning your visit: archaeological traces, a tasting by arrangement, or getting active on the Kudrnáčova Trail. You can decide which of these will shape your stay by considering specific details about the area.

Archaeological Traces in Klučov

The Slavic hillfort of Na Ptáčku was established in the mid-8th century on a rocky promontory above the Šembera stream. The site lies on a prominent spur immediately above the southeastern edge of the built-up area. The hillfort covered 1.6 ha and was surrounded by three rows of palisades and a ditch. Its location and fortifications describe two different aspects of the site.

During the Hussite Wars, the site was used to establish a field camp. The extensive remains of the fortification lines are not visible in the landscape today; vegetation or maintenance may affect the impression. This links the hillfort’s early medieval origins with its later use during the war.

The Klučov water fortress is a different kind of structure: it is oval, measures 58 × 32 m and is surrounded by a 6 to 22 m wide moat. An archaeological find provides evidence that the site dates to around the 13th century. Compared with the hillfort, the fortress’s shape and moat are its defining features, while the hillfort is notable for its palisades and use as a field camp.

Vineyards and Tastings

Vinařství Klučov offers a guided tasting of eight wines from the Klučov vineyards. Check availability before your trip. Private wine tastings for groups of eight or more are available by arrangement; coordinate the details in advance. The formats differ: a guided tasting with eight samples or a private tasting for a group of at least eight people.

The vineyards cover a total of 5.4 ha across three sites; planting began in 2017. The area may change in the future. Wine is therefore both a specific activity and a theme in the Klučov landscape.

Hiking the Kudrnáčova Trail

The Kudrnáčova Trail runs from Poříčany via Klučov Hillfort to Klučov and is more than 3 km long. It is suitable for families with children; along the way, there is a barefoot path and views of the surrounding area, among other features. It offers a different way to include Klučov in your trip than exploring archaeological traces or going on a wine tasting. Trail conditions may change, so it is a good idea to check the latest conditions before setting out.

Railway line 011 between Prague and Kolín is also relevant for getting there: Poříčany and Klučov are directly on this line. Check the timetables before your trip to make sure the train journey fits your itinerary.

Plan Your Stay

When planning an overnight stay, it helps to consider what you want to focus on: archaeological history, a wine tasting arranged in advance, or the Kudrnáčova Trail.
