A stone bed in a preserved cave above Drahlovice and the story of a large commercial malt house offer two different starting points for planning your trip to Skuhrov. The area’s proximity to the Brdské lesy adds another. You can focus on forest landscapes and seasonal activities, or explore traces of the area’s former industry.

Forest Landscapes and Activities

The municipality of Skuhrov lies close to the Brdské lesy and below the wooded Hřebeny ridge in the Brdy. The extensive forest complexes of Přírodní park Hřebeny are designated for their natural and scenic value. The Brdské lesy are considered suitable for walks, offering a different focus from the municipality’s historic sites.

In summer, activities associated with the Brdské lesy include mushroom picking and gathering forest fruits. Check local conditions and access before your visit. The area’s recognized assets also include hiking and cycling trails. If you are planning a specific trip, check its route and the current condition of the trail.

Rock Formations and Historical Traces

Several named landscape features lie above Drahlovice, a settlement within the municipality. Skalka contains a preserved cave with a stone bed. Bílá skála is one of the municipality’s romantic forest locations, while the “Na rozhledně” gorge is a local point of interest. These offer different themes for your visit: a cave, a forest location, and a gorge.

The former use of the landscape is also part of the area’s history. Stone was historically quarried in the “V roklích” area above the Skuhrov forester’s lodge. The material was used both to make grinding stones and for paving stones in Prague. This connection links a specific location with two different former uses of the stone.

Malting History and Cultural Heritage

Starting in 1890, Knight Daubek had a large commercial malt house built in Skuhrov on the site of the former fortress. Historically, malting at the facility continued uninterrupted from October to March. This period, from autumn into spring, conveys the scale of the former production and adds a theme of industrial history to the area’s landscape locations.

A chapel is another cultural point of interest: it is located on plot st.p. 29 in the cadastral area of Skuhrov pod Brdy. The chapel is considered a cultural asset of heritage-protection interest, but is not entered in the central heritage register. The same classification applies to the former malt-house complex in Skuhrov. A religious building and a former commercial facility thus stand side by side as distinct historical themes.
