Srbsko stretches along both banks of the Berounka, six kilometres southeast of the royal town of Beroun. Surrounded by limestone cliffs, the basin lies directly within the Český kras Protected Landscape Area. Trails and scenery shape the character of the village: options include a 9 km hiking nature trail of moderate difficulty, an approximately 12 km route along the Berounka, and a 39 km Geology Nature Trail for cyclists.

Hiking among waterfalls and along the river

The Srdcem Českého krasu nature trail is 9 km long and classified as a hiking route of moderate difficulty. From Srbsko, it passes the Bubovické Waterfalls, through Boubová, Propadlé vody and Hostim, and along the Kačák to its confluence with the Berounka near Kozel. The trail has 12 original information boards and 6 new ones, as well as 3 entrance boards, along with interactive, playful and educational features.

The route description notes a closure that affects the entire circuit. Check the current route before setting out. The flow of the Bubovické Waterfalls also varies: in dry years, they may remain dry for extended periods; in winter, spring or after rain, they are particularly impressive. The timing of your visit therefore affects what you will find at this destination.

Geological stops and a riverside route

At 39 km, the Geology Nature Trail is considerably longer and is a cycling route of moderate difficulty. Its 17 stops lead from V Kozle through Srbsko, then on to Koda, Tobolka, Kobyla and Zlatý kůň, ending in Suchomasty. The stops do not have to be visited in a set order: you can choose them yourself or ride just part of the route. This makes it easy to adapt the distance to your travel plans. Conditions and signage may change, so check the latest information before setting out.

Another option is the Po stopách českých králů nature trail. It is about 12 km long, follows the Berounka between Srbsko, Beroun and Králův Dvůr, and is suitable for walkers and cyclists. The three routes differ in both length and mode of travel: from the medium-length hiking trail and the riverside route to the 39 km cycling route, where you can choose the order of the stops.

Limestone landscapes and history

The Karlštejn National Nature Reserve contains world-renowned Palaeozoic geological sections and fossil sites, exposed both naturally and by quarrying. It also features surface and underground karst formations. The cadastral area of Srbsko u Berouna is among the cadastral areas within the reserve. The landscape can therefore be understood not only through its river and trails, but also through its geological character.

The first documented mention of the village dates back to 1482. The accounts of Karlštejn Castle record that a fisherman from Srbsko bought part of the forests. Limestone quarrying also played a role in the village’s development: the first limestone quarry was opened in 1882 by the J. Tomášek company. Geological features and local history are thus connected by the same defining material: limestone.

Climbing on the left bank

Srbsko – levý břeh is a traditional climbing area on limestone cliffs beside the Berounka, in the valley between Beroun and Karlštejn. Most routes are on walls, slabs and overhangs. If you plan to climb there, check the current access restrictions beforehand. This gives you clear options for your stay: hiking, cycling, geological discoveries or climbing, each offering a different focus.
