Hlásná Třebaň lies on the left bank of the Berounka and on the edge of the Český kras Protected Landscape Area. Two different focuses can help you plan your trip: a cycling route about 39 kilometres long, whose stops you can choose flexibly, and the town’s history, with its different historical layers. This lets you tailor your stay to the subjects that interest you most.

Riverside and protected landscape

Hlásná Třebaň lies on the left bank of the Berounka. The Karlštejn National Nature Reserve also includes the cadastral area of the town. The reserve contains world-renowned Palaeozoic geological profiles and palaeontological sites, as well as surface and underground karst features. These give the landscape a geological dimension that may also influence your choice of excursions.

One specific way to combine geology with a route is the Geologická naučná stezka, which begins in Hlásná Třebaň. Its stops introduce a subject that fits the protected landscape in the surrounding area. The location by the river and on the edge of the Český kras offers two different perspectives on the town: the Berounka as a geographical reference point and the karst landscape as a natural-history context.

Cycling routes with flexible options

The Geologická naučná stezka is about 39 kilometres long and is primarily a cycling route. You do not have to visit the stops in a set order; you can also choose just part of the route. This allows you to plan according to whether you want to explore more of the route or select specific sections.

Another cycling route in the Berounsko area runs from Hlásná Třebaň over a pedestrian bridge to Zadní Třebaň and then along the railway line to Řevnice. This is a different route description from the Geologická naučná stezka: here, named places and the route along the railway provide the points of reference. The EV4 cycle route also leads towards Hlásná Třebaň. Check the route and trail conditions before setting off. These three options differ in whether you are looking for a flexible themed route, a connection between several places, or a route towards the town.

History across several periods

The area where Hlásná Třebaň now stands was already settled during the Late and Final Bronze Age and the Hallstatt period. The first mention of the town in historical sources dates to the year 1000. These two details refer to different historical points: early settlement on the one hand, and the first recorded mention on the other.

In 1357, Charles IV purchased the village and incorporated it into the newly built Karlštejn Castle estate. At the end of the 19th century, Hlásná Třebaň was a small, predominantly agricultural community. Several farmsteads had gates and were designed in the Czech Folk Baroque style; houses were grouped around a village green with a chapel. In the late 1930s, the town became a popular resort. These milestones show how settlement history, the connection to Karlštejn and the later role as a resort differ within the town’s history.

A surviving section of the line of fortifications built between 1936 and 1937 is a historical testament to Czechoslovakia’s defence efforts. If you would like to include this remnant in your plans, check visitor access in advance. This keeps its historical significance distinct from the practical question of whether a visit is currently possible.

Plan your connection to Prague

Zadní Třebaň station has a connection to Prague via railway line 171, Praha–Beroun. The journey to central Prague takes 38 minutes, and trains run every half hour. If this connection is important for your stay, check the timetable and service frequency before travelling. The rail connection addresses a different planning need from the cycling routes: it provides an option for trips to Prague, while the routes offer different possibilities for outings by bike.

When choosing your hotel, you can consider the geology-themed route, the town’s history and the connection to Prague as separate priorities. Which matters most for your stay depends on how you want to spend your days.
