The Kupa offers opportunities for rafting in the area of the Municipality of Brod Moravice. There are also trails, viewpoints and cultural sites that reveal very different sides of the destination. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus on the water, outdoor activities, panoramic views or local history.

Water and trails

The Kupa Valley also offers kayaking and canoeing, fishing and paintball. If you are planning one of these activities, check the providers’ current availability in advance.

The Stenica–Medveja stena hiking trail is 1.6 kilometres long and takes about 40 minutes. The educational Lazica hunting trail is 1.1 kilometres long and starts and ends at the Lazica hunting lodge. The Planica–Volfi route is listed as 4.9 kilometres long and taking about two hours. This means you can factor different trail lengths and timeframes into your plans without treating the routes as equivalent.

Cycling routes and viewpoints

Cycling routes connect 38 settlements in the Municipality of Brod Moravice and lead to the stone Kula Turanj. One named MTB route is Route 781, “Brodmoravičkim selima”: it is 17 kilometres long and starts and ends in Brod Moravice. This gives you both a network of routes connecting many settlements and an individual route with a specified length, start and end point to help you find your way. Check trail conditions and the availability of GPX data before setting off.

The viewpoints offer different perspectives: from Orlove stijene, you can look out over the Kupa, while Parag viewpoint looks out over Brod Moravice and the surrounding settlements. From Kuti, you can reach Parag in a few minutes by car or in about 20 minutes on foot. As local road conditions may change, it is advisable to check the route in advance.

Medveja stena viewpoint is fenced for visitors’ safety and has a bench. This practical feature sets it apart from viewpoints whose descriptions focus primarily on the panoramic views.

Buildings and local history

Kula Turanj Zrinski was built in the late 16th century by a Zrinski prince as a defensive structure against the Ottomans. The tower displays replicas of period weapons, copies of maps and records about the history of the tower and Brod Moravice. Its construction history and exhibition thus link its former defensive role with the history of the place.

Delač House was built in 1644 and is the oldest preserved house in Gorski kotar. Today, it serves as an ethnographic museum displaying traditional objects. Check opening arrangements before your visit.

Piljdak is a stone signal pillar at the crossroads of the Brod Moravice–Moravička Sela–Maklen routes. According to local tradition, it served as a signal post during the Ottoman period: fires were said to have been lit there to warn the population of their arrival. Near Kocijani, a marked trail follows an old stone-paved cart track that was used in the time of the Zrinski between Severin na Kupi and Brod na Kupi. The tradition surrounding Piljdak and the historic use of the cart track tell different parts of local history.

Cultural sites and sacred history

Kolarnica is an exhibition space in a former workshop. It presents traditional crafts from the Brod Moravice area, including the making of wooden carts. Hrvatska čitaonica sela Kuti offers another perspective on cultural history: local residents founded it in 1936, and it has been run by volunteers ever since.

In Gornji Kuti is “Buna Bunar,” an installation by Japanese artist Akiko Sato. It features hand-carved doors on a well and was installed as part of Rijeka – European Capital of Culture 2020. The Camino Gorski kotar also includes significant sacred sites in Brod Moravice. The Church of St Peter and Paul in Podstene acquired its present appearance during its restoration in 1837.
