Discover Brod Moravice through several chapters of its local history: a 17th-century house, railway and school objects, and collections on crafts, fruit growing and tavern life each offer a different focus. In the wider travel destination of the Municipality of Brod Moravice, viewpoints, hiking trails and other historic sites add to the picture.
House History and Watchtower
In Delači, near Brod Moravice, stands Kuća Delač, traditionally dated to 1644. It is considered the oldest surviving house in Gorski kotar, is listed as an individually protected immovable cultural asset, and contains ethnographic and ethnological features. In the wider travel destination of the Municipality of Brod Moravice, Delač House now serves as an ethnographic museum of traditional objects. Check the opening arrangements before travelling.
Another chapter of local history is told by the Turanj–Zrinski Tower in Brod Moravice, originally built as a defensive and watchtower. In the wider travel destination of the Municipality of Brod Moravice, Kula Turanj Zrinski was built at the end of the 16th century by a Zrinski prince as a defensive structure against the Ottomans. The visitor exhibition includes replicas of contemporary weapons, copies of maps and documents, and material on the history of the tower and Brod Moravice. A visit may require prior arrangement.
Collections on Transport, School and Crafts
The Naša željeznica collection is housed in the former primary school building in the centre of Brod Moravice. It presents railway history through uniforms, signals, lamps, tools, telephones, clocks, books, documents, tickets and photographs. The Vilko Golubić Memorial Classroom is also located in the centre. Objects on display there relating to school history include books, notebooks, slates, pencils, schoolbags, rulers, maps and a globe.
Kolarnica is just before the centre of Brod Moravice. The collection documents traditional local crafts and the work, tools and everyday life of a barber, woodworker, tailor and shoemaker. In Brod Moravice, transport, education and various professions are each brought to life through their own objects and stories.
Fruit Growing and Tavern Life
The Moravičko voćarstvo collection in the centre of Brod Moravice is devoted to local fruit growing and rakija production. It also includes pear and juniper rakija; old barrels, baskets, fruit presses and a distillation still illustrate the traditions associated with them. The Plavi podrum collection recreates the atmosphere of a local tavern in the 1950s and 1960s. Its furnishings include period-appropriate furniture, drinks, newspapers and records.
Prior arrangements may be required for several of the houses and collections mentioned. Check in advance whether a visit is possible before making firm plans.
