A valley by a stream, a gallery in a converted mill, and a necropolis above the village give Podrašnica distinctive natural and cultural features. Zelenkovac lies beside the village of Podrašnica; Mramorje is among the historic sites above the village. The two highlights can be explored according to your interest in nature or culture when choosing a destination.
Zelenkovac: Stream, Forest and History
The Zelenkovac mountain recreation area encompasses the valley of the stream of the same name. It rises on the western slopes of Mount Lisina and flows through a pine forest. In April 2002, Zelenkovac was granted the status of an ecological zone. Together, the stream, forest and historic designation give the area a distinctive natural and historical character.
Watermills are also part of the area's history: about fifteen were built along the stream several centuries ago. One of them was converted into the studio of artist Borislav Janković in 1985. Janković opened the art gallery “Zašto nije otišao Boro!?” in this mill. Its extensive collection includes works of art, ethnographic objects and other cultural items. The mill thus links an earlier craft with a later artistic venue.
Roman Road and Memorial Sites
The route of the Roman road Salona–Servitium ran through western Bosnia, including Podrašnica. Another historical reminder is the memorial fountain unveiled in 2014. It was dedicated to 16 Thessaloniki fighters and First World War volunteers from Podrašnica. Together with the Roman route, it offers a glimpse into different chapters of the area's history.
Above Podrašnica lies the Mramorje necropolis, with around 150 stećak tombstones. From there, you can enjoy an unobstructed view over the Podrašničko polje. The walk from the road takes approximately 20 minutes; trail conditions may change, so it is worth checking them before your visit. Bešlagić also mentions a smaller stećak necropolis called “Malo mramorje,” with about 20 tombstones. Mramorje therefore has the greater number of tombstones.
Jazz, Events and Food
Music is also part of Zelenkovac's cultural scene: in 2025, the jazz festival celebrated a quarter-century of tradition. A Go tournament is also among the events listed for Zelenkovac. If you would like to plan your trip around a festival or tournament, check in advance whether a date fits your stay.
Visitors to Zelenkovac are offered homemade food prepared over an open fire. Food offerings and availability may change. For planning your trip, several interests are available: the landscape by the stream, the history of the mills and gallery, the stećak necropolises, and the memorial sites. You can then decide which of these aspects matters most to you during your stay in Podrašnica.
