Modriča can be explored through cultural sites in the centre and destinations around the municipality. The Srpski kulturni centar, the pedestrian street and the Turbe offer insights into different aspects of the town. If you would like to plan your stay beyond the town itself, you can also find seasonal nature and leisure activities in the municipality.
Culture and Everyday Life in the Centre
The Srpski kulturni centar includes a municipal library with around 32,000 titles. The centre hosts literary evenings, public discussions, workshops, seminars and various presentations. The Blue Hall inside the centre has a capacity of 250 people. If you would like to attend a particular event, check the current programme in advance.
Pješačka ulica, also known as Modrički korzo, is a pedestrian street about 300 metres long. Along the street are shops, artisan businesses, cafés and restaurants. The cultural programme and a stroll along the Korzo offer different ways to experience the centre: one leads to events at the cultural centre, while the other takes you past the shops and dining options along the pedestrian street.
Historic Sites and Religious Traditions
The Turbe of Modriča is the tomb of a Turkish bey who died at the beginning of the 18th century. It is in very good condition and has a landscaped courtyard and a fence. As its structural condition may change, it is advisable to check the latest information before visiting. The Turbe is especially often visited during Ramadan, when candles are lit at the windows and in the surrounding area. This recurring religious tradition sets Ramadan apart from a visit focused primarily on the structure and its history.
Another historic destination is the old town of Dobor, with the Dobor Tower. It lies on the left bank of the Bosna, about four kilometres upstream from Modriča. If you plan to visit Dobor, check the current access conditions. The Gospina crkva in Modriča was built in 1889, adding another dated building to the historic sites in the townscape.
Events, Cuisine and Excursions
Gastro Encounters takes place every year in May in Modriča. The event’s specialities include fish soup and Čorbanac, a traditional shepherd’s stew. The dishes are prepared by members of local hunting and fishing clubs. As the event takes place in a specific month, check the dates before travelling. This lets you plan a May stay around the culinary event, rather than treating it as a year-round offering.
The Duga Njiva excursion area, on Trebava, is also located in the municipality of Modriča. Deciduous and coniferous forests, unspoilt drinking-water springs and diverse flora and fauna characterise the landscape; constant air currents ensure clean air there. In summer, the area is suitable for camping and excursions, walks, cycling, gathering medicinal herbs and hunting. The summer offering is therefore clearly distinct from the cultural programme in the centre, which is described as available year-round. Seasonal conditions may affect the activities available on site.
Another destination is the Riječani sports and recreation centre in the village of Riječani Gornji, 12 kilometres from Modriča. It is set in a well-preserved natural environment, suitable for leisure activities in both summer and winter. Comparing it with Duga Njiva helps with planning: specific summer activities are listed for Duga Njiva, while Riječani offers leisure activities in both seasons. In the municipality, the Krušik distillery offers organised groups tours with tasting and lunch; arrangements should be made in advance.
