On the banks of the Una and on the slopes of Kozara, Kozarska Dubica brings together river landscapes, architecture and cultural sites. Its different themes are easy to distinguish: the streetscape, church and library exhibition shape the cultural impression of the town, alongside cycling routes, riverbanks and regional cuisine. Moštanica Monastery, a cycling route linking several destinations and summer events each offer their own focus. You can decide whether to concentrate on architecture and history, outdoor activity or culinary discoveries.

The Una, streetscape and culture

Kozarska Dubica lies on the banks of the Una and on the slopes of Mount Kozara. The riverbanks are gathering places for people who love nature. Buildings from the 20th century stand alongside modern 21st-century architecture in the town. A specific historical reference can be found on Svetosavska Street: formerly called Kralja Aleksandra, it has largely retained its authenticity. Its former and current names, together with the preserved character of the street, give the townscape a distinct historical dimension.

Among the sights is the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. The National Library also adds a cultural highlight: its permanent exhibition includes a lithograph by Pablo Picasso from the bequest of Boško Šiljegović. The church, streetscape and artwork represent different aspects of the cultural offering, without requiring a single set sightseeing route.

Moštanica Monastery and cultural events

Moštanica Monastery lies 12 kilometres south of the town centre, beside the Moštanica stream. The first written records of the monastery date back to 1579. The Transfiguration of the Lord is celebrated there every year on 19 August. The occasion includes “Veče ojkače,” a call-and-response performance of traditional folk songs. If you plan your trip around this date, check the event schedule for the year of your visit in advance.

Cycling routes and time by the river

The 30-kilometre Kozara cycling route links Kozarska Dubica, Moštanica Monastery and Kozara National Park. Continuous blue cycling markers, signposts and panels with route maps help guide you along the way. The section between the national park and the monastery has four rest stops and three drinking-water springs. Another route in the municipality’s surroundings is the 39.5-kilometre Mrakovica–Donja Gradina Memorial Trail, which is also suitable for cycling. Its length and destinations distinguish it from the Kozara cycling route.

Blato Beach, a bathing spot in Kozarska Dubica, is on the banks of the Una. This means the town and its surroundings offer several points of interest for a trip: a cycling route linking multiple destinations, a longer memorial trail and a river beach. The routes can be distinguished by their lengths and destinations; your choice depends on which of these options best suits your plans.

Regattas and summer events

The three-day international Una Regatta passes through Kozarska Dubica and is a recurring part of Dubičko ljeto. If you want to plan your trip around the event, check the dates for the year in question. In the 2025 edition of the Dubička Regatta, participants travelled by boat from Johova to Blato Beach. The regatta traditionally ends there with games, dinner and entertainment. The route and closing programme give the event a different focus from the cycling route and its signposted destinations.

Regional cuisine and wine

In the village of Klekovci, in the Kozarska Dubica area, the Banjac family’s rural household welcomes groups by prior arrangement. The tasting room can accommodate up to 50 visitors. The offerings include their own white wine and traditional food, such as cured meats, baked goods, cottage cheese and homemade fruit juice. Advance booking is an important consideration for groups planning a visit; the food and wine offer a distinct culinary highlight alongside the cultural and riverside themes.

Wine production is also part of the region’s character. Podrum Panić Winery is located on the northwestern slopes of Kozara in the municipality of Kozarska Dubica and is part of the Kozara wine region. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon grow in its vineyards. High-quality wines are produced and aged from these varieties in the cellar. Together with the Banjac family’s offering, this illustrates the range of local wine and food culture: a group visit with a tasting room and traditional dishes on the one hand, and information about grape varieties and winemaking on the other.
