Two themes stand out for a stay in Hadžići: cultural history centred on stećci and monuments, and hiking and mountain sports. The municipality’s folk traditions and regional specialties are also part of the picture. These different themes can help you decide on the purpose of your trip before looking for suitable accommodation.

Cultural history between Hadžići and Gradac

Margetino Groblje, with its stećci, is located in the centre of present-day Hadžići and points to a medieval settlement. This named site offers a glimpse into the town’s history. In the wider municipal context, there is also the historic area of Gradac, a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Gradac monument area includes a prehistoric hillfort, Roman monuments, a medieval town, the foundations of a medieval church, a necropolis with stećci, and a quarry. Its listed features span prehistoric and Roman remains as well as medieval buildings and burial sites. Different traces of history can therefore be found side by side: Margetino Groblje in the centre of present-day Hadžići and the extensive monument area in the wider municipal context.

Folk traditions and cultural events

The “Ivan Planina” Cultural and Arts Society from Hadžići has been preserving and promoting cultural heritage for more than 75 years. It presents the folk traditions of Hadžići through a preparatory children’s ensemble, a children’s ensemble, and a performance ensemble. The latter’s dances include traditions of the Muslim community from Hadžići as well as dances of the Orthodox community from Sarajevo Polje. Alongside the archaeological sites, the preservation of folk traditions is also an important part of the area’s cultural life.

The 2026 edition of Hadžićko ljeto, scheduled to run from June 26 to August 9, was set to feature more than 50 cultural, sporting, entertainment, and social events at over 15 locations across the municipality. Plans included exhibitions, theatre and film screenings, art workshops, concerts, family activities, food festivals, and mountain festivals. Planinski festival Brezovača 2026 took place on July 25 at 11:30 a.m. at Planinarski dom Brezovača on Igman; it was the event’s fourth edition.

Hiking and mountain sports

The Planinarsko sportsko društvo Brezovača Hadžići promotes hiking and mountain sports, provides information about marked trails, and develops mountaineering skills among its members and other mountain enthusiasts. More than 60 kilometres of hiking trails had been mapped and digitised in the municipality of Hadžići, and modern signage had also been installed. This municipal figure is distinct from the description of a specific trail on Igman, presented as an opportunity to walk, relax, learn, and connect with nature.

The two details have different focuses: the distance refers to the territory of the municipality of Hadžići, while the description of the individual trail names Igman. Since trail routes and signage can change, check the current route before setting out. This helps ensure that your plans are based on the specific trail you choose.

Regional specialties and finding accommodation

Cheese and kajmak are among the specialities of the villages of Bjelašnica. This culinary element adds to the cultural and scenic themes that may shape a stay in Hadžići.

Regional specialties can also help determine the purpose of your trip.
