Dürnberg is Ottensheim’s local mountain and stands 549 metres high. Its hiking options can be seen in two distinct routes: the Stamperlweg is a high-altitude loop around and up Hoher Dürnberg; Donausteig Stage 3_N06 Ottensheim–Linz crosses Dürnberg. This means there is both a mountain loop and a named stage between Ottensheim and Linz. This is a useful first distinction between the two hiking options when planning your trip.

Stamperlweg: High-altitude loop with wooden signs

The Stamperlweg starts and ends at Gasthaus Dürnbergwirt. This high-altitude loop leads around and up Hoher Dürnberg. Wooden signs mark the trail all the way. They feature a hiking boot and a small schnapps glass. These two symbols reflect the route’s name and give you concrete landmarks to help with navigation. The Stamperlweg can therefore be identified by its loop, its shared start and finish point, and its recurring trail markers.

Donausteig: Cultural landscape and rest area

Donausteig Stage 3_N06 Ottensheim–Linz crosses Dürnberg through a rural cultural landscape and continues uphill to the Donausteig rest area “Dürnberg”. There, you can take a break with views over the Eferding Basin. The stage also passes a chapel. The landscape, views and named waypoints are all part of this route between Ottensheim and Linz. Unlike the Stamperlweg, which is designed as a high-altitude loop, this route is a stage that places Dürnberg within the connection between the two towns.

Views of the surrounding area

The Ottensheim Dürnberg webcam is located on Dürnberg and shows Ottensheim, the Danube, the Eferding Basin and the Alpine foothills. It offers views of several named places and landscapes. As webcam availability may change, check whether it is available before using it.

Getting to the Danube Panorama Trail

The Danube Panorama Trail can be reached via Dürnberg station on the Mühlkreisbahn railway. If you are considering this as your way of getting there, check the current timetable separately. This will allow you to coordinate your train journey with your travel date.

Dürnberg Festival at Wöginger-Hof

The Dürnberg Festival is also associated with a specific location on Ottensheim’s Dürnberg. A report on the 2024 edition names Wöginger-Hof as the venue and notes that the festival had been held at the same farm for 44 years as of 2024. This connection between the festival and the farm adds a cultural facet of Dürnberg to its hiking routes.

Planning your hike and choosing accommodation

If hiking is a key part of your stay, you can base your search for a hotel or other accommodation on the type of route you plan to take. The Stamperlweg is a high-altitude loop around and up Hoher Dürnberg; the Donausteig stage is named Ottensheim–Linz. First decide which route is more important for your trip, then consider your own requirements for accommodation, location and daily planning.
