Grossraming can be explored through themes that stay tangible along the way: the Planet Trail turns a hike into a journey through the solar system, the Miners’ Trail leads into the history of coal mining, and raft trips are offered on the Enns. There are also museums, a geological natural monument and activities for all kinds of exercise. When planning, it is therefore helpful to consider whether you would like to focus more on a route, history, water or physical activity. The individual destinations each have a different focus and do not need to be combined into a set itinerary.

Hikes with Different Themes

The Planet Trail is a hike through the solar system, from the Sun to Neptune. At a scale of 1:1 billion, the route covers 4.5 km and follows hiking trail E46 to the Welser farm. This links an astronomical theme with a clearly described route and destination. Those who want to follow a particular theme while walking will find a different focus here than on a summit hike.

The Guck-Naz circular hiking trail passes over the Schartenmauer to the summit of the 841 m-high Haingrabeneck. Another option is the Gschwendtalm–Gamsstein route, which starts and ends in Grossraming. From the Gschwendtalm, you can reach the Gamsstein via steep meadows and through forests. Conditions for this mountain hike depend on the season and may vary; check them before your hike.

Local Museums and History

Rosi Gruber’s private Nativity Scene Museum displays 300 nativity scenes. The Heimatstube at the Gruber Carriage Museum offers a different kind of collection: it comprises more than 600 exhibits related to agriculture, woodworking and various trades, as well as rarities of rural cultural traditions. Visits to the Heimatstube are available by request. Carriage rides at the Gruber Carriage Museum are also offered by request.

The oldest parts of today’s Grossraming parish church date back to 1513. The Miners’ Trail adds the 50-year history of the former coal mine to these historical themes. Its 22 information boards explain the economic significance of mining, as well as the living and working conditions and the social circumstances of the miners and their families. For cycling, the Enns Cycle Route R7 follows the Enns towards Weyer; in Grossraming, the Carriage Museum is listed as a worthwhile stop.

Water and Physical Activity

Floß & Co offers raft trips on the Enns in the national park community of Grossraming. The landing point for all raft trips is opposite GH Stangl at Eisenstraße 66, 4463 Grossraming. The canoe rental offers boats for two to three people to explore a river independently, as well as guided tours.

At the leisure centre by the Aschatal campsite, a swimming pontoon with an access bridge provides access to the water for swimming, stand-up paddling and canoeing. Check local conditions before use. On land, the Grossraming Motorik Fun Park has 18 stations with around 50 elements for climbing, balancing, swinging, jumping and experimenting. Right next to it is the 400 m-long pump track, with rollers, turns and jumps for bicycles, scooters and balance bikes. The two facilities offer different forms of physical activity side by side.

A Geological Natural Monument

The Leopold von Buch Monument is a geological natural monument comprising around 20 granite boulders of various sizes amid limestone and sandstone formations. Unlike the themed hiking trails, this site focuses on a specific natural monument and its geological setting. Together with the trails, museums and water activities, it offers further opportunities to shape your stay around your own interests.
