A pilgrimage church on one of the highest points in the municipality, a chapel tradition tied to a fixed public holiday, and 200 years of mining history give Allerheiligen im Mühlkreis several distinct points of interest. There are also trails and a striking granite formation. You can therefore tailor your stay to your interests: church history, hiking and nature, or mining.
Pilgrimage Church and Organ
The Roman Catholic parish and pilgrimage church “Our Lady, Queen of All Saints” stands in the town centre, on one of the highest points in the municipality of Allerheiligen im Mühlkreis. Its organ dates from the first half of the 17th century. The church’s role in the community thus goes hand in hand with an instrument whose historical date is clearly established.
Chapel, Tradition and Local Lore
The Heiligenstein Chapel was built in 1504 as the “Hüttl am Heiligenstein” (Little Hut on Heiligenstein). Since 1960, an altar has been set up on Corpus Christi, from which the Gospel is proclaimed. If you would like to plan your trip around this tradition, take the public holiday into account when choosing your dates and check the latest event information. At the Schüsselsteine on the edge of the forest, you will find sacrificial stones or offering bowls. The “Bergauf-Bergo Weg” hiking trail also takes you past the Pechölstein. The tradition is tied to a specific public holiday, while the Pechölstein is associated with a named hiking trail—two different points of reference for planning your trip.
Falkenstein and Hiking Trails
Falkenstein is a granite outcrop that rises almost vertically about 100 metres above the Naarn. It was declared a natural monument on 13 September 1983. Its height and protected status offer two distinct perspectives: the striking shape of the rock and its formal designation as a natural monument.
The Jahreskreisweg (Circle of the Year Trail) starts in the town centre of Allerheiligen. The Stoakraftweg is 48 kilometres long and runs through Mühlviertel Nature Park and the nature park municipalities of Allerheiligen, Bad Zell, Rechberg and St. Thomas am Blasenstein. It also leads to the pilgrimage church in Allerheiligen. The difference is clear when choosing a route: the Jahreskreisweg starts in the town centre, while the Stoakraftweg is a trail that crosses several municipalities and leads to the pilgrimage church.
Mining History and Flying Fox
The Kaolinum Mining Museum covers 200 years of mining history, from 1803 to the present day. A faithfully detailed demonstration mine, complete with numerous tools and pieces of equipment, illustrates the harsh working conditions miners faced above and below ground. This brings together a long historical period and a tangible depiction of working conditions—two distinct ways to explore mining.
The Kaolinum high ropes course features a 120-metre-long flying fox, which starts 12 metres above the ground. If you are planning to try this activity, check in advance whether it is currently operating.
