The trails cater to different interests: the Energy Trail features interactive stations on sustainable energy, the Senses Trail focuses on natural landmarks, and the Enzmilner Cultural Hiking Trail explores history. Münzbach lies on a gentle ridge that stretches from east to west. When planning your stay, you can therefore choose a focus first, then consider the route length and how to get there.

Circular Routes with Different Themes

The Münzbach Energy Trail is a circular route about 2.4 km long. At interactive stations, you can discover energy in a playful, engaging and hands-on way, using all your senses; the stations focus on various forms of sustainable energy generation. The start and finish are at the Münzbach sports ground, Arbinger Straße 40, 4323 Münzbach. The approximate length and circular route format give you a clear guide when choosing a trail.

The Senses Trail is a circular route with two different lengths. Allow around 1.5 to 2 hours of walking time for the shorter option. On Taferlweg, not far from the Senses Park, the trail passes the Meier Pond biotope. It also leads to the protected Koppler Pine, a landmark of Münzbach. From there, enjoy far-reaching views across Münzbach, from the Ötscher to the Traunstein and into the Mühlviertel.

Natural Landmarks and Panoramic Views

Felsenruhe, not far from the town centre, offers a different kind of experience. It is a rest stop and a special place of energy where you can observe the characteristic weathering of the rocks directly. While the Koppler Pine is known for its sweeping views across Münzbach and into the Mühlviertel, Felsenruhe combines a place to rest with a geological feature. These two notable natural destinations therefore each have a distinct focus.

Cultural Hiking Trail and Choosing a Route

The Enzmilner Cultural Hiking Trail presents the rich history of Windhaag, Altenburg and Münzbach at 50 stations. Its main route is 12.8 km long and passes through Windhaag, the ruins, Siebenkirchenblick, Münzbach, Altenburg and the wildlife park before returning to Windhaag. This means that different criteria come into play when choosing this route compared with the Senses Trail: here, the main considerations are history, the stations and the length of the main route; for the Senses Trail, they are natural landmarks and two circular route options, with a walking time given for the shorter one. This lets you weigh up the theme and route profile together.

Getting There and Trailheads

Münzbach can be reached via Linz on the Westbahn railway, followed by the Donauuferbahn railway to Perg. From there, continue to Münzbach by bus or taxi. Check current connections before travelling. The M1 – Great Circular Hiking Trail starts and ends at Münzbach’s new market square. There is an information board with information materials, and hikers can park their cars there. The different starting points help you plan your journey separately from your choice of trail.
