Hiking and Summit Views
Söll offers a range of highlights for your stay: a circular hike with scenic views, mountain panoramas from the Hohe Salve and insights into the town’s history. The short Sunnseit Runde begins and ends at the Franzlhof hiking trailhead in Söll, at an altitude of 703 metres. This sunny circular hike offers views of Söll, the Wilder Kaiser, the Hohe Salve and the Pölven massif. Since the start and finish are at the same place, you return to your starting point at the end of the hike.
If you would like to plan your outing differently, you can include the gondola lifts: two gondola lifts run from Söll to Hochsöll and the Hohe Salve. From the summit of the Hohe Salve, you can see more than 70 peaks over 3,000 metres high. This gives you a choice of different experiences: a sunny hike with views of several named peaks and mountain ranges, or the panorama from the summit of the Hohe Salve. Consider which of these outings you would like to shape your stay around, and check the current operating times if you are planning to use the gondola lifts.
Local History and Living Traditions
There are also several ways to explore Söll’s history in the village itself. Today’s parish church in Söll is a Rococo church built by local artists from 1765 to 1768. It is dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul. The Söll village walk passes centuries-old farmhouses, and the Stampfanger Chapel is a well-known pilgrimage church. Sacred architecture, rural buildings and religious traditions thus lend your stay a variety of cultural highlights.
The Almabtrieb is celebrated every year: in Söll, this festival marks the return of the cattle and herders from the alpine pastures. Festively decorated cows make their way into the village, accompanied by the local brass band. If you would like to plan your trip around this festival, check the date for the year of your visit in advance.
More Outings and Practical Planning
At the Simonalm in Hexenwasser, visitors can make their own butter. This offers a hands-on insight into a regional tradition and makes for a different kind of outing from the circular hike or summit views. The Ahornsee is a swimming lake in the centre of Söll, and there is also a beach volleyball court by the lake. This means you can enjoy activities involving water and exercise alongside hiking and cultural attractions. Check the current conditions before visiting the lake and, if you plan to swim, check the applicable opening hours.
The Mondrodelbahn is another option for a tobogganing outing: it is four kilometres long, rated as easy and suitable for families. The run is snowmaking-equipped and illuminated. If tobogganing is a key part of your trip, check the current opening hours before making plans. Gruberhof cannot be reached by bus or car, as the road leading there is private. Take this restriction into account before including the farm in your plans.
This will help you tailor your search to the experiences you actually want to include in your plans. If a festival date or the Mondrodelbahn is a deciding factor, check the relevant dates or opening hours against your travel dates.
