Ebbs brings together topics that play different roles when planning a trip: nature and wildlife, Haflinger breeding, hiking and church architecture. If you want to give your stay a particular focus, you can start by choosing your main interest and then select other discoveries to suit. The Raritätenzoo and the Foal Farm represent wildlife and breeding respectively, while trails and churches offer their own thematic ways to explore outdoor activities and culture.

Nature and Haflinger breeding

The Raritätenzoo Ebbs has been set in natural surroundings at the foot of the Zahmer Kaiser since 1991. Its location adds a distinct landscape connection to the wildlife focus.

The Foal Farm Ebbs offers a different focus: it is the oldest Haflinger stud farm in the world and a centre of international Haflinger breeding. A visit lets you get to know the Foal Farm Ebbs. The stud farm is home to around 100 Haflingers and has two indoor riding arenas and the Foal Farm Arena, with over 3,500 seats. Traditional festivals, breeding events and displays are also held at the Foal Farm. This means the farm’s thematic appeal includes breeding as well as visitor attractions and events. Consider whether horse breeding or the types of events are of greater interest to you.

Hikes starting in Ebbs-Eichelwang

The hike to Tischofer Cave, at the entrance to the Kaisertal Valley, starts in Ebbs-Eichelwang and is classified as easy. The walking time is 45 minutes one way, or 45 minutes per direction. Allow time for each direction when planning your return trip; 45 minutes does not cover the entire there-and-back journey. Take care in wet weather, so it is advisable to consider the conditions before setting out.

The Kaisertal ascent also starts in Ebbs-Eichelwang and follows a route of around 280 steps. Here, the number of steps is the specific planning guide; for the cave hike, it is the walking time per direction. This distinction helps you keep the respective details clear when planning.

A sporting event in 2026

The Ebbser Koasamarsch took place for the 56th time on Saturday, 13 June 2026. The event included three trail-running distances of 20, 33 and 55 km, as well as four hiking routes of 4.2, 12, 20 and 33 km in the Kaisergebirge. The route lengths show the different ranges covered by the two types of activity: the shortest hiking route listed is 4.2 km, while the longest trail-running distance is 55 km. The date and distances refer to this past edition.

Churches and architectural history

St Nicholas Church in Ebbs was originally a castle chapel. Ebbs parish church was built from 1748 to 1756 in place of the Gothic church. The listed “Ebbser Dom” is a highlight in Ebbs. Alongside nature, horse breeding and outdoor activities, this adds historical functions, architectural history and heritage protection to the area’s cultural themes.
