In Hollersbach im Pinzgau, the options range from a seasonal mountain ride and winter ski access to educational trails, art and a bookable nature experience. The best time to visit therefore also depends on what you would like to experience: winter sports, a scenic gondola ride, a trail along the Hollersbach stream or an art event in August. The specific offerings provide different points of reference for planning.

Mountain Cable Car: Winter Access and Summer Views

The modern Hollersbach panoramic cable car takes guests to the Resterkogel mountain station, at an altitude of 1,892 metres, in twelve minutes. In winter, it is the southernmost access point to the world-famous KitzSki ski area. From Hollersbach, winter sports enthusiasts have direct access to around 170 kilometres of excellently prepared pistes of all difficulty levels. If you come to ski in winter, you can access KitzSki directly from Hollersbach.

In summer, the gondola ride offers views of Hohe Tauern National Park and the Alpine landscape. Winter ski access and summer views offer different highlights; the cable car operates seasonally. If the mountain ride is important to your stay, check the timetable in advance for your chosen dates.

Trails, Views and a Base for Hikes

The Bachlehrweg educational trail begins at the entrance to the Hollersbach Valley, by the Seestube car park, and follows the Hollersbach stream to the Wirtsalm. Its starting point, the course along the stream and its destination give the trail a clear framework. The view of the Hohe Tauern panorama is a highlight of the Bienenlehrpfad educational trail. The two trails can be distinguished by their respective themes: one follows the stream, while the other offers views of the Hohe Tauern.

For mountaineers and ambitious hikers, the Fürtherhütte is a base on the Tauern Westweg or Arnoweg. It complements the educational trails described above with a connection to two named long-distance hiking trails. If you would like to combine your trip with one of these trails, the hut’s role is a useful point of reference when planning.

Herbs, Art and History

The bookable “So schmeckt die Natur” module takes participants into the surrounding area of the Nationalpark-Werkstatt to gather herbs and plants. The finds are then prepared in the Nationalparkküche at the Klausnerhaus, and the resulting treats are sampled. Gathering, preparing and tasting are all part of this educational experience. Participation details may change, so check them before planning your visit.

Every August, the Malerwochen turn Hollersbach im Pinzgau into a venue for international art. Participants can develop their skills in various painting techniques at the “Kramerstall” art hall under the guidance of artists. The exact dates and programme may vary from one edition to another. If you are planning a stay around the Malerwochen, it is therefore worth checking the dates for the relevant edition.

The parish church dedicated to St Vitus is also worth a visit for those interested in culture: individual pieces of its Baroque furnishings can be seen at the local history museum. As the display may change, check the current arrangements before visiting.
