Werfenweng can be enjoyed in different ways: Hiking and walking trails take centre stage, with seasonal activities added in winter. Churches, pilgrimage sites, a ski museum and a themed agricultural trail offer other points of interest. When planning, it’s worth choosing activities to suit your interests and taking current conditions into account for seasonal offerings.

Hiking, Walking and Panoramic Views

Werfenweng has 99 kilometres of hiking trails. The Werfenweng Walking Paradise is a 12-kilometre network of walking routes. These two options can help you decide how to spend the day: would you like to focus on a hike or a walk? Check local conditions before setting out on a hike.

Bischling offers 360-degree mountain views. In winter, paragliding enthusiasts head to the 1,840-metre-high mountain to paraglide. Check the weather conditions and the operator’s information before flying.

Winter Activities

There are local cross-country skiing trails at the foot of the Tennengebirge. Cross-country skiing is a seasonal activity, so check the current trail conditions before setting out. In Werfenweng, lighting also makes evening tobogganing possible. As this is also a seasonal offering, it’s worth checking whether it is currently operating.

The KID'S Snowpark has eight themed trails and is designed for families. Dein Berg, located right in the village centre by the Dorfbahn Rosnerköpfl, offers fun, relaxation and enjoyment for the whole family. The two attractions have different focuses: the Snowpark is defined by its themed trails, while Dein Berg brings together a range of leisure activities.

Churches, Pilgrimage and History

The Church of the Nativity of Mary in the village centre was consecrated in 1509. The Catholic parish church of Mariae Geburt in Werfenweng is a listed building; the Salzburg heritage register is dated 30 June 2025. About 100 metres from the church is a small spring that pilgrims still like to visit.

Near Werfenweng is a wayside shrine known as the Ursprungskapelle Weng. It is also a listed monument and appears in the Salzburg heritage register dated 30 June 2025. The church, spring and wayside shrine each offer a different connection to the area’s religious and local heritage.

Discover Skiing and Farming

The Salzburg FIS State Ski Museum traces the development of skiing from its beginnings around 5,000 years ago to modern ski racing. Its long historical perspective offers a different way to explore the subject than taking part in winter activities outdoors. Check current visitor information before your visit.

The agricultural themed trail uses lovingly illustrated, easy-to-understand information boards to explain life on and around a farm and the work of local farmers. At the Werfenweng farm shop, local farmers sell products of their own making. If you’re planning a visit, check the opening hours in advance.

Getting There and Practical Planning

The W3 Shuttle was developed as public transport for the last mile between Bischofshofen railway station, a transport hub, and the tourism town of Werfenweng. Before travelling, check the current route and booking conditions so you can plan your journey accordingly.
