Mandling offers several different perspectives on a stay: craftsmanship on a guided tour, places under monument protection and routes with their own distinct courses. When choosing, it helps to distinguish between these interests: the circular walk along the Mandlingbach is a different kind of tour from a stage towards Ramsau or the section of the Enns Cycle Path. Tastings are also available at the mountain café at Mandlberggut. This lets you plan your trip around a specific focus.
Distinguishing between hikes and routes
The Mandling circular walk starts at Gasthof Geringer in Mandling and follows the Mandlingbach to an idyllic reservoir. Its starting point and course give the loop a clear focus on the water. This sets it apart from routes that describe Mandling as the starting point or a stop along a longer stage.
The first stage of the Panorama Trail 100 starts in Mandling and leads over Vorberg to Ramsau. The Enns Trail Gleiming–Mandling passes through Mandling and then runs near the Enns through a beautiful lowland forest. The difference is clear when choosing: the Panorama Trail is described in terms of Vorberg and Ramsau; on the Enns Trail, Mandling is followed by the Enns and the lowland forest. This lets you compare the routes based on their respective courses, rather than solely on their connection to Mandling.
Cycling on the Enns Cycle Path
One stage of the Enns Cycle Path also leads to Mandling: Stage 01 Flachauwinkl–Schladming reaches the village, passes beneath the B 146 there and crosses the Mandlingbach. Unlike the circular walk, Mandling is part of a named cycling stage here. This helps distinguish cycling plans from a local loop and consider the Enns Cycle Path as a focus in its own right.
Loden craftsmanship and monument protection
A guided tour of Steiner1888’s Loden manufactory shows how high-quality Loden fabrics are made from natural raw materials. The insight therefore covers both the manufacturing process and the finished material. If you are interested in craftsmanship, this tour offers a different focus from the outdoor routes.
Mandling is also home to the PaĂźanlage, PaĂź Mandling, and the Franzosenkreuz, both of which are protected monuments. The PaĂźanlage is protected by an official decision, while the Franzosenkreuz is protected by a regulation. These two named places add protected cultural monuments to the perspectives on craftsmanship and landscape.
Moorland, tastings and getting here
A large area of moorland lies near Mandling, where peat is still cut. The moorland offers a further connection to the landscape, alongside the route descriptions along the Mandlingbach and near the Enns. Tastings take place at the mountain café at Mandlberggut; this culinary aspect can be a factor when choosing a focus, alongside hiking, cycling and culture.
There is a post bus stop right in Mandling. If you are planning to travel by public transport, it is a practical starting point. Check the timetable for a suitable connection on your travel day before making further plans around it.
