At the southern end of Lake Obertrum lies Obertrum am See, nestled among the gentle hills and valleys of Salzburg’s Lake District. When choosing where to stay, it is worth considering the different sides of the village: trails and woodland knowledge, time by the water, beer culture and local history. This way, you can tailor your accommodation search to what you most want to experience during your getaway.

Trails between lake and forest

The Obertrum Nature Experience Trail lies in the nature reserve on the southern shore of Lake Obertrum. The WaldWissensWeg (Forest Knowledge Trail) focuses on the forest as a habitat for plants and animals: along a route of about 2 km, there are 21 information panels and an activity station. You can allow about 1 to 1.5 hours of walking time for the Fischerweg. These details offer different points of reference for your choice: a walking time for the Fischerweg, and the distance and subject matter for the WaldWissensWeg. You can decide whether a time estimate or a focus on the forest is more important to you.

A day by the water

Obertrum Lido has a family-friendly sandy beach with shallow access to the water. You can sail, take an electric or pedal boat, or go stand-up paddleboarding. So there is more to choose from than simply spending time on the beach, with various activities on the water included. The lido also has a large car park and numerous changing cabins indoors and outdoors. If you want water and activity to be a focus of your trip, the lido offers several ways to tailor your visit to your interests.

Beer culture, market and summer events

At the Kiesbye BIERkulturHAUS, you can brew your own beer. The TRUMER WELT in Salzburg’s Lake District invites you on a sensory journey through the world of Pilsner beers. The Obertrum Farmers’ Market offers something different: once a month, local producers present fruit, vegetables, mushrooms, eggs, and meat and cheese products, along with tastings and opportunities to chat. Be sure to check the market day again before your trip.

Events can also shape your plans. The Trumer Maifest takes place every year; check the specific dates separately. The Trumer Summer Cinema is held every July and August on the grounds of the Trumer private brewery. It is also a good idea to check the current dates for that year’s programme. This lets you include recurring events in your travel plans without assuming their dates.

Local history and crafts

The parish church is dedicated to Saint James; its origins date back to the 12th century. The village centre reflects another period in its history: after the fire, it was rebuilt from 1917 to 1927 according to plans by architect Karl Pirich (1875–1956), and forms a largely unified ensemble.

The Museum in the Einlegerhaus focuses on flax processing and rural ceramics. The museum also includes an authentic shoemaker’s workshop, a living room and a hair salon. These subjects make a museum visit an opportunity to learn about crafts and rural life, while the church and village centre offer other historical perspectives.

The VIA NOVA Trail also combines the experience of walking with a historical connection: in Obertrum am See, it passes the Kaiserbuche on Haunsberg. The beech tree was planted during the imperial era and commemorates the unofficial visit of Joseph II, Holy Roman Emperor, on 28 October 1779. There are also fountains in Obertrum am See along the VIA NOVA pilgrimage route.
