Henndorf Am Wallersee lies on the southeastern shore of Lake Wallersee. There are various options for planning your day: the lido, trails with nature and cultural themes, and literary sites. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first decide whether you want your stay to focus on the water, a longer hike or culture. The options vary by theme; the full-day Eiszeit-Rundweg trail in particular requires careful consideration of how much time it takes.

Lake Wallersee and outdoor activities

At Henndorf Lido, you can rent a SUP and use a beach volleyball court. This gives you a choice of two different activities at the lake: a trip on a SUP or a game on the court. The Wallersee circular trail runs along the southern side of Lake Wallersee, via Marieninsel and Enzing, and continues to Henndorf Am Wallersee. Free parking for the circular trail is available at the lido. Check the current parking situation before setting off.

Trails with different themes

The full-day Eiszeit-Rundweg trail is about 13 km long and takes approximately 6 to 7 hours. At eleven stations, the trail explains traces and evidence of the Ice Age. Its length and approximate walking time can help you decide whether you want to make this hike the focus of your day; also check current trail conditions before setting off. Bus route 130 stops at the Ortsmitte stop, about a five-minute walk from the Eiszeit-Rundweg trail’s starting point at the school. If you plan to travel by bus, check the timetable before your journey.

The Naturtexte-Weg runs through the town of Henndorf Am Wallersee. It turns observations of nature into delicate, simple poetry, presented in a variety of forms and languages. Unlike the Eiszeit-Rundweg, its focus is not on geological history but on the poetic interpretation of observations of nature. The Zuckmayer-Route also starts in Henndorf as a cycling route, offering another option for active days.

Literature, architectural history and special places

The Henndorf Literature House is located in the birthplace of Johannes Freumbichler, a writer and the grandfather of Thomas Bernhard. The house is 300 years old; in 2009, it was renovated in keeping with its style, in accordance with the heritage office’s requirements. Literary family history and architectural history come together here in one place.

The Henndorf Am Wallersee pilgrimage site includes St. Brigida’s Church, picturesquely situated on a hill. Another historic site is the ruins of Lichtentann Castle: you can reach them on the northwestern edge of Henndorfer Wald after about a 15-minute walk along the marked trail towards Heimkehrerkreuz. At Wiesmühl, the owners invite visitors to see the garden that Carl Zuckmayer once called his paradise. Arrange your visit with the family in advance.

Golf and regional cuisine

The Gut Altentann Golf Club in Henndorf has an 18-hole golf course. For a different kind of break, the Stelzhamer Stube prepares and serves fresh dishes made mostly with seasonal ingredients from the local region. Alongside trails, the lake and culture, golf and seasonal cuisine offer other ways to plan your stay.
