Motor Racing, Museums and History
A trip to Habach can be planned around different interests: motorsport at the Salzburgring, the MANRO Classic Museum, nature in the Koppler Moor or outdoor activities on hiking and cross-country ski trails. First decide whether events, culture, scenery or outdoor activities are your priority, then add the other attractions as you wish. This lets you plan your stay around your own interests.
The Salzburgring is located in Habach, between the villages of Koppl and Plainfeld. Its annual programme includes international and national motorcycle and car races. If a particular race is the reason for your trip, check its date before booking. The MANRO Classic Museum is located at Gewerbepark Habach 1, 5321 Koppl bei Salzburg, on the Wolfgangseer BundesstraĂźe, directly opposite the Salzburgring. Their location directly opposite each other makes it easy to plan around the race programme and the museum.
Nature and Local History
The Koppler Moor offers a focus on natural history. Several species of sedge, heather, various berry plants and orchids grow there; the moor is also a habitat for several rare butterfly and bird species. As a natural area for hikers and nature enthusiasts, it offers a different perspective from the racing events at the Salzburgring. The plant life and wildlife habitat provide two distinct ways to experience the same natural area.
A historic highlight is the Catholic parish church of St James the Elder in Koppl (Habach), DorfstraĂźe 8, 5321 Koppl. It is protected as a historic monument by ordinance and is listed in the Salzburg monument register dated 30 June 2025. In 1511, the present-day church was described as the castle chapel of the Lords of Nockstein. The parish church combines a specific historical connection with its present-day protected status, adding a cultural attraction to the nature and motorsport themes.
Hiking, Cross-Country Skiing and Getting There
For active days, hiking and cross-country skiing offer different options. The local Salzburgring hiking trail passes through Koppl, the Salzburgring, Reit, Habach and Willischwand. This means the Salzburgring features not only as a venue for races but also as a stop on a route that covers several places. The Koppl cross-country skiing area has a 6.5 km classic trail. You can join the cross-country ski trail network at Camp24, near the Koppl/Habach bus stop. The named stops along the hiking trail and the stated length of the ski trail offer different points of reference for planning your day.
For the Mühlenweg from Koppl to Plötz, you can use regional bus lines 150 or 155 to the “Koppl Habach” stop as a guide. The route to the Gaisberg via the Ostgrat is also accessible by regional bus lines 150 or 155 to this stop. Check the timetable before setting off if you plan to connect either hike with the bus service.
