In Krumbach, architectural history, rural cultural heritage and outdoor activities offer a range of different options. The Museum Village combines a permanent exhibition with the opportunity to explore individual buildings; the Zöbernbach Cycle Route and the Fairy Trail offer two different ways to get outdoors. If you are looking for a hotel in Krumbach, you can start by considering which focus you want your stay to have: local history, cycling or a family outing.
The townscape and rural history
Krumbach’s sights include the Gothic parish church with its Baroque rectory and the Erasmus Church. The rectory and chaplaincy were built in the Rococo style in 1771/72. The town’s history thus brings together different ecclesiastical buildings and art-historical connections.
The Krumbach Museum Village offers a different perspective on the region’s history. The Bürgerspital houses a permanent exhibition about the lives of the rural population in the Bucklige Welt since the 16th century. The Tannbauer is also part of the historic collection: it is considered a unique record of changes in rural life in the Eastern Alps in the past. Anyone interested in everyday life and architectural history will find individual historic buildings here as well as the exhibition.
After an introductory film, visitors can explore the Museum Village buildings on their own. Digital media stations support the tour, and MEDIA GUIDES are also available. Krumbach Castle is a different kind of attraction: as of September 2026, it is privately owned and not open to the public. Check current access information before planning a visit.
Museum Village: events, garden and refreshments
An Easter market has been held at the Museum Village for many years, both in the museum rooms and outdoors. The next edition is planned for 2027; check the dates before making plans. Around 40 exhibitors offer traditional crafts and regional specialities. The number of exhibitors may vary from one edition to the next.
The Museum Village also has a show garden. Flowering herb beds around the historic buildings create habitats for bees, butterflies and many other garden inhabitants. The garden is open seasonally, so it is worth checking the relevant season before visiting. In 2026, the Museum Village tavern offers hot specialities as well as cider and wine from its own production. Dates and offerings may change; check them before your visit.
Cycling and short walks
The Zöbernbach Cycle Route connects Krumbach, Bad Schönau and Kirchschlag. It is part of the Panorama and Fortified Churches routes and runs along the Zöbernbach, away from the main road. The cycle route is family-friendly and very suitable for children. It differs from the Fairy Trail, which is a short, leisurely walk through the fairy forest for families and children.
Along a stretch of the Fairy Trail about one kilometre long, visitors will find lovingly crafted decorations and handmade natural artworks. This section combines a short walk with little discoveries along the way. If you prefer to head for a specific landmark, you can reach the Steinkreis viewpoint from Krumbach via a regional route. The stone circle has a diameter of six metres and was arranged by people.
More places to visit
Fishing is possible from several jetties and meadow spots at the landscape lake in Krumbach. For a different kind of outing, the Eis-Greissler World offers an adventure park with a water playground. Visitors can also sample new ice cream creations from Eis-Greissler in an experimental kitchen. These activities offer different experiences: fishing at the lake, enjoying the adventure park or learning how new ice cream flavours are created.
