Get to know Herrnbaumgarten through its diverse cultural offerings: the Nonseum is devoted to inventions that are not needed, while the Kitchen Museum, Grocery Store Museum and Cinema Museum each focus on their own historical themes. There are also six different cellar lanes, wine-related experiences and paths leading to chapels and other named destinations. For planning your visit, it may help to choose a focus first: Would you like to explore collections, discover cellar lanes and wine, or go hiking?
Museums with a Range of Themes
The Nonseum showcases 487.3 “borderline brilliant” inventions that are not needed. The museum also includes the outdoor Nonsense Teaching Garden and a cinema. The Kitchen Museum focuses on fully furnished kitchens from 1900 to 1970. The Grocery Store Museum displays the original inventory of the Vermischte Warenhandlung Brüger grocery store, founded in 1877. The Cinema Museum, meanwhile, showcases restored sound-film equipment spanning a century of cinema history.
Each museum has a distinct focus: the Nonseum features unusual inventions, while the Kitchen, Grocery Store and Cinema museums present collections related to domestic life, retail and film technology. If you are looking for a cultural focus for your stay, you can choose according to the type of collection that interests you most.
Cellar Lanes and Wine
Herrnbaumgarten has six different cellar lanes. The Schindergasse runs through a loamy sunken lane and features walled cellar entrances, some cellars that are overgrown or collapsed, and restored wine-press houses. The Schindergassenfest takes place there every June. The cellar lanes therefore offer both architectural and landscape features, while the festival is an annual event in June.
At the Umschaid Labyrinth Cellar, visitors can take part in wine tastings in a connected underground cellar system. At the Herrnbaumgarten Vinothek, you can enjoy wine or grape juice with a winemaker. Its selection includes more than 50 wines as well as juices, spirits, and sparkling or semi-sparkling wines. The wine experiences therefore differ in format: at the Labyrinth Cellar, tastings take place in the connected cellar system, while the Vinothek also offers grape juice and other drink categories.
Routes to Different Destinations
There is a short and a long Nordic walking route; both start at the Schreiberhaus. The Ehret den Sock hiking trail leads to the large Sockenweingarten vineyard and the Steinberg Chapel, then through a sunken lane to the Antonius Chapel and a cellar lane in Herrnbaumgarten. The routes differ both in format and in the destinations mentioned: the Nordic walking routes offer two distance options with the same starting point, while the hiking trail passes several named places.
The 3-Schwestern-Weg connects the wine-growing towns of Falkenstein, Poysdorf and Herrnbaumgarten. It extends the journey beyond a single town, while the Nordic walking routes and the Ehret den Sock hiking trail explicitly start in Herrnbaumgarten or lead to destinations there. These different themes can help guide your choice of hotel: museums, wine and cellar lanes, or the location of the trails and their named destinations can shape the focus of your stay.
