Eichenbrunn offers several clearly distinct discoveries: St. Koloman Parish Church with its Kolomani Chapel, Trift Cellar Lane, a village pool and one stage of the Kellertrift long-distance hiking trail. There is also a playground and the alpacas at the Eichenbrunn Alpaca Farm. During your stay, you can choose between local history, landscape and outdoor activities rather than trying to pack every theme into a single outing.

Local History Around Koloman

Eichenbrunn is believed to have originated around the year 1000 as a village built around a village green. According to tradition, the pilgrim Koloman stopped in Eichenbrunn, at the foot of the Leiser Berge, by a spring that rises beside an oak tree. The settlement’s history and the Koloman tradition emphasize different things: one focuses on the early settlement pattern, while the other tells a religious story involving a pilgrim, a spring and an oak tree.

St. Koloman Parish Church also reflects two distinct historical periods. On its north side is the Kolomani Chapel, built in the 19th century and home to a statue of the church’s patron saint. Inside the church are also two Baroque oil paintings from the third quarter of the 18th century. The paintings therefore date from an earlier period than the chapel; together, they point to different phases in the local church’s history.

Trift Cellar Lane and the Village Pool

Trift Cellar Lane is a single-cellar lane with cellars on both sides, set in a ravine, and leads southwest out of the village. The term refers to a series of individual cellar structures; “on both sides” means they stand on either side of the lane. The complex extends for 500 metres and comprises 93 cellar structures. These two figures distinguish the length of the lane from the number of cellar structures it contains.

The village pool lies at the foot of the parish church. Its temperature remains approximately the same in summer and winter, at around 12 °C; as a result, it does not freeze over. Unlike the built heritage around the church, the pool can be understood from a natural-history perspective: what matters here is how little it changes between the seasons.

Hiking and Other Experiences

The fifth stage of the Kellertrift long-distance hiking trail runs from Eichenbrunn to Patzmannsdorf and is about 25 kilometres long; the fourth stage is the longest on the route. This gives you two different ways to choose: the fifth stage can be identified by its starting point, destination and approximate length, while the fourth stands out as the longest. If you would rather focus on local landmarks than a hiking stage, the church, cellar lane and pool offer different points of interest.

Eichenbrunn Playground has balancing and climbing equipment as well as a swing. The alpacas at Eichenbrunn Alpaca Farm are a five-minute walk away. The short walking time highlights the distance between two different attractions: activities at the playground and the farm’s alpacas.
