Rangersdorf offers several points of interest for a stay: churches and historic buildings, the route of the Glockner Cycle Route R8, and leisure activities that are sometimes dependent on seasonal conditions. In the historic town centre, a Mauerspeicher (historic storage building) bears the year 1502; in Lainach stands the branch church of St Margaret. The pilgrimage site of Marterle and the Lainach and Mitterling leisure centres each offer something different, too. Local history, the cycle route and activities can therefore be considered as separate themes when planning a trip.

Churches and Local History

The parish church of Rangersdorf is dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul. It is a late Gothic church from the early 16th century; its nave was later remodelled in the Baroque style. Notable features include the imposing Gothic south tower with its pointed gable helmet. Its late Gothic classification and the later remodelling of the nave point to different phases of construction. The church therefore offers more than a single architectural feature: its design combines Gothic elements with a later alteration to the interior.

Another historic landmark in the town centre is the Mauerspeicher, which bears the year 1502. In Lainach, the branch church of St Margaret was consecrated with two altars on 4 September 1521 by Bishop Berthold of Chiemsee. The dates refer to different buildings and different historical details: 1502 is inscribed on the storage building, while 1521 is the year the branch church was consecrated. The so-called Fercherstube in the inn commemorates the poet Fercher von Steinwand (1828–1902), who came from the region. After it was listed for protection, the historic Wirtsstadel in Rangersdorf was saved from demolition and adapted as an event venue. This shows another aspect of local history: the continued use of a historic building.

Marterle also connects church and local history with a specific geographical setting. The pilgrimage site lies at an altitude of around 1,861 metres on the southern flank of the Sadnig group. The church at Marterle was consecrated on 22 June 1906 by Prince-Bishop Dr Josef Kahn. Those interested in religious buildings will find a range of historical connections: the late Gothic parish church in Rangersdorf, the branch church in Lainach and the church at the high-altitude pilgrimage site.

Cycle Route and Leisure Activities

The Glockner Cycle Route R8 begins in Heiligenblut and ends in Möllbrücke. Within the municipality of Rangersdorf, it runs from Lainach via Rangersdorf and Lamnitz to Tresdorf. This sequence of villages gives a clear overview of the route through the municipality. When planning, it is helpful to distinguish between the full route and the local section: the villages listed mark the route within Rangersdorf, while Heiligenblut and Möllbrücke are the two endpoints of the R8.

The Mitterling leisure centre has a small pond and is located along the R8 cycle route, away from the main road. It therefore has two specific features: its location on the cycle route and the pond. Other activities take centre stage at the Lainach leisure centre. When there is enough snow, the drag lift is open for skiing; the ice rink is intended for ice-stock sport and ice skating. The activities therefore differ both in what they offer and in the conditions required, not just in their location.

For seasonal planning, snow conditions are especially important for the drag lift: skiing is only possible there when there is enough snow. The ice rink adds ice-stock sport and ice skating to the range of activities; as a seasonal leisure option, it can also be factored into your timing. It is therefore a good idea to check conditions before visiting, especially for these activities. If you would rather focus your stay on culture and local history, you can explore the churches, Mauerspeicher, Fercherstube and historic Wirtsstadel as separate points of interest. The cycle route and leisure centres add to the options, without requiring you to combine them into a set itinerary.
