In Jizzakh Province, discoveries range from wetlands and bird habitats to mountain nature and pilgrimage sites. The diversity is especially evident at the lakes: Lake Tuzkan is in Forish District and is part of the Aydar-Arnasay lake system. The Aydar-Arnasay Lakes stretch across the Jizzakh and Navoi regions and are included in the Ramsar Convention’s List of Wetlands of International Importance.

At the East Arnasay Lakes, reeds, turanga, cattails and tamarisks provide habitats for migratory birds such as herons, spoonbills and ducks. Fishing is available at Lake Tuzkan; the brackish water is home to species including zander, catfish, carp and snakeheads. Spending a family holiday at the beach or gathering with friends around a campfire are also options by the lake. Check the conditions locally.

Mountain Nature and Outdoor Experiences

Zaamin National Nature Park lies on the northern slopes of the Turkestan Range in Zaamin and Baxmal districts. The park is home to more than 30 mammal species and more than 102 bird species; three mammal species and twelve bird species are listed in Uzbekistan’s Red Book. The streams along the park’s border drain into the Zamin-suv River watershed. Boboyongok is one of the park’s ecotourism destinations.

The Suffa area is also among the province’s natural attractions: an official travel programme for the region includes exploring ecotourism routes in Zomin National Nature Park. Check the conditions and route availability before your trip. For Jum-Jum in Baxmal District, a tourism article published on 6 October 2025 describes a sports base for international distance-walking competitions that welcomes participants from various countries every year.

A tourism description dated 24 March 2025 lists a 2,102-metre cable car and a 305-metre-long, 150-metre-high suspension bridge in the Zaamin tourist and recreational zone. Check the current operating status before your trip. This allows the facilities described and the ecotourism routes to be understood as distinct nature experiences, without assuming that their conditions are the same.

Caves and Landscapes in the Nurata Mountains

Peshagor Cave is part of a natural complex of four caves. Numerous artefacts and traces of human life indicate that people lived there as early as prehistoric times. Trips and excursions to the cave are organised; check for current dates when planning your visit.

The Nurata Nature Reserve lies in the central part of the Nurata Range. It was established in the 1970s to protect the Severtzov’s sheep. Lake Fazilman is one of the range’s popular attractions. Another distinctive landform is the Amir Temur Gate: the gorge is 120 to 130 metres wide and is located in G‘allaorol District.

Historic Sites, Pilgrimage Sites and Cuisine

The Sa’d ibn Abu Waqqas historical complex is in the village of Avliyo-Ota in G‘allaorol District. The shrine’s mosque was built in the 19th century and features an Oriental style. The Khoja Nuriddin Madrasa, built in 1903, is located in the Havaslik mahalla. The Sultan Khalil Mausoleum in G‘allaorol District dates from the 14th century; the Mullabuloq shrine was built in the 11th century. Its healing spring waters attract many pilgrims.

A pilgrimage ritual is associated with the Parpi-Oyim complex in the village of Uvol in Zaamin District: women pass three times through a narrow opening in the Teshiktosh stone block, believing this will help them become mothers soon. This tradition is best approached with respect.

The Jizzakh Regional State Museum of History and Culture and its five branches present historical and cultural exhibits to the public. If you are planning a visit, it is advisable to check the current opening hours. The regional cuisine also has a distinctive example: Jizzakh samsa is considered a popular dish and a symbol of the region. Its filling consists of large pieces of meat, onions and lamb fat.

On 30 April 2025, Uzunbulok mahalla in G‘allaorol District was officially granted the status of a “Tourist Mahalla”. Find out which facilities are currently available before visiting.
