The Babur Memorial Park is located on Bagishamol Hill, seven kilometers from Andijan. A cable car in the park goes up Bogishamol Hill and offers panoramic views of the park and the city. The house museum features rare exhibits associated with Babur and the Baburids. The park thus brings together city views and the memory of Babur’s dynasty. Before making specific plans, check whether the cable car is operating.

Historical Architecture in Andijan

In the old part of Andijan is the Jome Complex, which ruler Muhammadalibay had built between 1885 and 1892. The complex comprises a madrasa, a minaret and a khanaka. This combination makes the complex legible as an ensemble of several buildings. The old Kala fortress tells a different story: it was built in 1880–1881 as a defensive fortress for the troops of the Russian Empire. The Akhmadbekkhodji Hotel dates from 1905–1907 and preserves interior ornaments in the style typical of the Fergana Valley. These buildings invite comparison between religious architecture, military history and regionally distinctive decoration.

Pilgrimage Sites and Islamic Education

In Imam Ota, the Mausoleum of Imam Muhammad Hanafiya is the principal historical and religious site. Imam Muhammad Hanafiya, also known as Imam Ota, was the son of Ali ibn Abu Talib, the fourth rightly guided caliph. In the Imam Ota Gorge, a flight of steps leads to the sacred site of Orzu gori. The mausoleum and the gorge thus offer two religious points of interest in Imam Ota.

The Sayyid Muhyiddin Makhdum Madrasa is located in the village of Jalabek in the Altynkul District of Andijan Province. It is an Islamic religious and educational institution, founded in 1992 in honor of Andijan educator Sayyid Muhyiddin Makhdum. Another site is the Honako Mosque, a monument of Islamic architecture. Its founding is dated to 1560; it is located in Jalabek District, five kilometers from the center of Andijan. Together, these sites illustrate the region’s varied religious and educational connections.

Archaeological Evidence

Mingtepa features the ruins of walls six meters high and towers with loopholes. The city was divided into an outer area, an inner area and a citadel. Its walls, towers and three-part layout offer a tangible picture of the city’s structure. Sarbon-tepa dates from the beginning of the Iron Age, the 6th to 4th centuries BC, and is among the specially protected areas of ancient history in Andijan Province. Kush-Tepa, an ancient archaeological site in Jalabek District, dates from the 3rd to 8th centuries BC.

Imam Ota: Mountain Scenery and Culture

The tourist village of Imam Ota is located in Khojaabad District of Andijan Province, at the foot of the Chilustun Range, at an altitude of about 1,100 meters. Imam Ota thus combines scenic experiences with religious sites and cultural events.

Fairs devoted to domestic tourism, featuring works by local craftspeople and exhibitions, are also held regularly.
