Lake Dallas is a resort community on the shore of Lewisville Lake, ten miles south of Denton in southeastern Denton County. During your stay, lakeside trails, recreational spaces, and history offer different points of interest: you can explore the waterfront landscape, park activities, Swisher Cemetery, or local events.

Trails on Lewisville Lake

The Willow Grove Park Trail winds through trees along the shore of Lewisville Lake. The lakeshore borders a large part of Willow Grove Park. The Denton Katy Trail differs in route and use: it runs from north to south along the western edge of Lake Dallas and is suitable for walking, running, and cycling. The choice therefore comes down to different priorities: waterfront scenery and trees on one hand, route and activity on the other.

Fishing is also permitted in Willow Grove Park with a valid fishing license. Because licensing requirements may change, check the current regulations before fishing.

Choose a Park by Activity

The parks differ in the recreational activities they offer. City Park has two mini playing fields by the tennis courts and five soccer fields for soccer-related activities. Community Park has a large grassy area for casual recreation, including playing Frisbee and practicing soccer, as well as play for children. The distinction is useful for planning: choose based on whether you prefer the playing fields at City Park or the large grassy area and informal activities at Community Park.

History in Lake Dallas

The oldest grave at Swisher Cemetery dates to 1867; the cemetery has more than 1,100 graves in total. Those buried there include many veterans of the American Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Persian Gulf War. This brings together a specific early date and the remembrance of people from several conflicts.

Another chapter in the town’s development is the transportation link to Little Elm. In 2009, the North Texas Tollway Authority restored it with a 1.7-mile bridge over Lewisville Lake. This historic connection is another aspect of Lake Dallas’s history, alongside the cemetery and the recreational offerings by the water.

Events as a Reason to Visit

The Lake Cities 4th of July celebration is a family-oriented community event with free activities and music. The program includes a patriotic parade, food, competitions, and other activities; individual program items may change. Merry on Main is a free holiday event. Trunk or Treat is family-friendly and offers an entertaining, safe alternative to the traditional Halloween practice of going from door to door. The events differ in occasion and format. If you would like to plan your stay around one of them, check the dates and current program in advance.
