In Täsch, winter trails and cross-country skiing meet an alpine landscape and a village with traditional Valais houses. Täschalp, chapels and the village walk offer a range of options for planning your trip. If you choose Täsch as your destination, you can pick between winter activities, an excursion into the mountain landscape and insights into local history.

Winter Trails, Cross-Country Skiing and Sledding

The Täsch Panorama Route (No. 130) is an easy winter loop trail: at 2.9 kilometres, it takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes. The route crosses broad, open areas on the valley floor and passes through a protected forest and a romantic mixed forest. Check current conditions and any possible diversions before setting out.

The Täsch cross-country ski trail is on the flat valley floor and is suitable for beginners and relaxed cross-country skiing. As this is a seasonal winter activity, check snow and trail conditions in advance. The Täsch sledding run offers a different perspective on the village: from Täschberg Chapel, there is an impressive view down to Täsch. Night sledding and full-moon sledding are also possible on the run; if you are planning a specific visit, check whether any organised dates are currently being offered.

Täschalp and the Hut Approach

Täschalp lies in a hollow between the slopes of the Rothorn and the four-thousand-metre peaks of the Mischabel massif. Its landscape is characterised by green pastures, cows, farms and a cheese dairy. The crystal-clear mountain stream Mellichbach flows across the alp. The approach to Täschhütte SAC from Täschalp is short and manageable with children. As conditions can affect its suitability, check them before setting out. The Täschalp taxi runs from Täsch to Täschalp three times a day; frequency may vary by season. So check the current timetable before travelling.

Village History and Chapels

The village walk takes you past traditional Valais houses, barns, granaries and old stables. It also brings the village’s history to life; the old buildings shape the village’s character. A brochure for the walk is available at the tourist office. Fuxstein Chapel is carved into a boulder on the valley floor. It offers a peaceful place for Sunday walkers who wish to pray in quiet.

Ranft Chapel is dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Flüe, also known as Brother Klaus. Every year on 25 September, a candlelit procession makes its way to the chapel, where a Holy Mass is then celebrated. If you are planning a specific visit, check the current arrangements. Masses and other services in the Roman Catholic church in Täsch are held in Portuguese and German; times may change. The Schalisee recreation area is another option in the area: families and friends can spend time together there.

Location and onward travel

The political municipality of Täsch lies in the Matter Valley and includes, in addition to the village, the hamlets of Zermettjen and Täschberg, as well as the Täschalp hiking area. Täsch is the last village in the Matter Valley before Zermatt. Since 1972, the road from Täsch towards Zermatt has been closed to private traffic; continue by the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway. Cars can be parked at the Matterhorn Terminal Täsch car park, built in 2006, at the railway station.
