Porza lies on a sunny moraine promontory that connects two glaciers. From here, you can enjoy views of the nearby city of Lugano, the lake and the surrounding mountains. Panoramic routes and trails lead to Porza Hill. This gives you two distinct focuses for planning your trip: the landscape and its views, and the cultural history reflected in the farm complex, church and museum.

Farm History and Architecture

The Masseria di Cornaredo is a farm complex in the Lombard rural architectural style and is protected as a local cultural asset within the municipality of Porza. It was first mentioned in written records in 1351. Historically, the complex was used for livestock rearing, fodder production and agriculture; sericulture was added later. The Torchio a Cornaredo is recognized as a cultural asset. Following its restoration, the space with the Torchio a leva can be used for cultural visits and also for dining activities at the nearby Locanda.

Church and Local History

The first official document concerning the Vicini of Porza was recorded in 1597 during the visit of the Bishop of Como, Monsignor Archinti, to the parish of Lugano. In 1647, the parish of Santi Martino e Bernardino was separated from the parish of Comano. The current parish church dates from 1753; its architecture is Baroque, with Neoclassical elements. These dates record different aspects of the history: the Vicini of Porza, the development of the parish and the present-day church building. The Oratorio di San Rocco is also a cultural monument in Porza.

Museum and Cultural Sites

The Museo Villa Pia is associated with the Fondazione d’Arte Erich Lindenberg and is dedicated to preserving and promoting the German painter Erich Lindenberg (1938–2006). The museum also serves as a place for encounters and cultural exchange. Together with the religious monuments and the Masseria, it showcases different facets of cultural life in Porza: sacred buildings, a historic farm complex and a museum dedicated to an artist.

Trails and Natural Areas

A 2025 technical report by the municipality describes the planned restoration of Salita Cappelletta. The footpath connects Strada Cantonale above with Via Poggiolo below. The report describes the lower entrance as freely accessible, apart from a few natural-stone steps; the upper entrances are restricted by double barriers to mopeds and motorcycles. The timing is important for orientation: this access information comes from the 2025 report.

The Scollinando project includes Porza in a network of eleven municipalities. This network features walking routes open year-round and, in some places, cycling routes through natural, cultural and architectural areas. The S. Francesco wetland is a different kind of natural area: it is protected as a nature reserve and marked with signs; the access road is closed to vehicles. The routes, protected area and historic sites offer different possible focuses for a trip, from views from the hill to cultural discoveries.

When looking for a hotel in Porza, it helps to decide what matters most for your trip: architectural and parish history, views of the lake and mountains, or routes through natural and cultural areas.
