Muzzano can be explored from two different perspectives: the nature-rich Laghetto di Muzzano and the village’s historic buildings. The loop trail connects the pond with the village centre, offering a practical way to take in the landscape and village character in a single outing.

Nature at the Laghetto and the Loop Trail

The Laghetto di Muzzano covers 22 hectares and is a rare example of a glacial pond in hilly terrain. Its shores are undeveloped. The official paths in the nature reserve are freely accessible at all times; local trail conditions may change.

The Apiario didattico di Pro Natura Ticino is also part of this natural setting. It comprises four beehives in the Laghetto di Muzzano nature reserve and adds beekeeping to the nature-focused experience.

The loop trail by the Laghetto is about 3 km long, and you can start at various points. Allow around one to two hours for the circuit. Wildlife watching and breaks affect the duration, so this time estimate is a guide rather than a fixed walking time.

The route partly follows footpaths and roads and passes through the centre of Muzzano. This is an important distinction when planning compared with a loop that runs exclusively along the water: this route also takes in the village, connecting the natural setting with its built character.

Village History and Architecture

The Contrada alta is the oldest part of Muzzano and lies above the rest of the village centre. Its buildings show medieval features, and carefully restored buildings characterise this area. Alongside the natural setting by the Laghetto, the village’s historic buildings give its history a distinct focus.

The patrician houses Lamoni e Fè date from the 18th century and stand opposite the church building. Ca’ da Fè is a stately residence from the second half of the 19th century. It is set in a large park with a particularly fine view of the lake. The dates distinguish the two examples: Lamoni e Fè represents the 18th century, and Ca’ da Fè the second half of the 19th century.

The Chiesa di S. Maria dell’Annunciazione was built in the mid-17th century as a reconstruction of an older building. It stands beside a small walled church square. The reference to the predecessor building adds an earlier chapter to the history of the reconstruction.

The Cappella di S. Andrea in Agnuzzo was first mentioned as early as 1208. Its bell tower has a Romanesque basic structure and a Baroque upper section. This building therefore illustrates different architectural features, while the year 1208 establishes the chapel’s early mention.
