Ocourt is a small farming village in the valley floor of the Doubs in the Folded Jura, west of Saint-Ursanne. It lies at an altitude of 424 m and around seven kilometres south of Porrentruy as the crow flies. Ocourt is on the French-Swiss Doubs. Two different routes are worth considering when planning your trip: the “Randonnée des citernes au Clos du Doubs” hike starts in the village, while a recommended detour on the Jurassic Bike passes through Ocourt. You can plan your stay according to whether you want to include a hike with a river crossing or a mountain-bike route along forest paths.

Valley Floor and Heights

In the Clos du Doubs area, the former municipality of Ocourt encompassed a Doubs valley cut deep between two Jura ranges, with a flat valley floor 200 to 500 m wide. The slopes are mostly steep, predominantly wooded, and in places broken by rock faces. To the south, the area extended along the Clos du Doubs range as far as Lai Grétche at 885 m above sea level; to the north, it reached along the Lomont range as far as Les Chainions at 909 m above sea level, the highest point in the former municipality. Two deep erosion valleys lie on the southern slope of the Lomont range; between them is Montagne de Valbert at 790 m above sea level.

On Foot and by Mountain Bike

The “Randonnée des citernes au Clos du Doubs” hike starts in Ocourt. It is 10.7 kilometres long, is considered easy, and takes about three hours and 30 minutes. The route crosses the Doubs and follows a forest path southwards. Along the way, it passes a cistern considered part of Épiquerez’s unique cultural heritage. The approximate duration and distance provide concrete points of reference for planning your time; check trail conditions before setting out.

The recommended Jurassic Bike detour descends from Col de Montvoie to Ocourt along forest paths, then continues along the south bank of the Doubs to St. Ursanne. The mountain-bike route is not explicitly signposted. Your route choice can therefore depend on different planning considerations: the hike has a stated distance and approximate duration, while the bike detour focuses on the route and navigation.

Local History and Getting There

There are also two different points of reference for the area’s history: Église d’Ocourt – La Motte is a freestanding building between Ocourt and La Motte and is mentioned as early as 1139. Medieval castle ruins can be found near Montvoie in the Clos du Doubs near Ocourt.

The public transport network map, valid from 14 December 2025, shows the St-Ursanne, Gare – Ville – Ocourt – La Motte connection. Check the timetable for your travel date before setting out.
