Seleute combines trails through the Jura landscape with views across the Clos du Doubs and small cultural sites. When planning, it is worth distinguishing the different routes by their course and duration: alongside longer connections, there are marked sections and a trail focused on chapels and oratories.

Understanding the Routes and Trail Sections

The “Tour de l’Ajoie 06” route runs from Rocourt via La Vacherie Dessus and the Col de Montvoie to Seleute, then continues to St-Ursanne. After the pass, it descends via Vacherie-Mouillard to Seleute. The full route is listed as 25.35 kilometres, 7 hours and 3 minutes, with 853 metres of ascent and 870 metres of descent. As trail conditions can change, it is advisable to check them before setting out.

The Chemin du Jura reaches the hamlet of Seleute after crossing a ridge. The third stage offers expansive views over the Clos du Doubs region and its steep slopes. The “Chemin du Jura 03” route through Seleute is rated technically easy, category T1, and is not a circular route. Take its course into account when choosing your starting and finishing points.

Those interested in chapels and oratories will find a suitable themed route on the JuraPastoral-Parcours 5: it runs on foot or by bicycle from the Col de la Croix via Vacherie Mouillard to Seleute and takes 2 hours and 55 minutes. The Tour de l’Ajoie 06 is considerably longer at 7 hours and 3 minutes; the times refer to different route itineraries. On Parcours 5, the section from Pt 828 to Seleute is listed as taking 30 minutes, with 13 metres of ascent. The section between Seleute and the Col de la Croix follows a road. As surfaces can change due to maintenance work, check trail conditions before setting out.

Other trails connect Seleute from different directions. “The Colporteur” runs from the Col de la Croix over the ridge through rugged terrain to Seleute, then climbs back up to the ridge towards the border. The Trans Swiss Trail passes through Les Chainions into the Doubs Nature Park and then continues to Seleute. This gives you a choice of both individual sections and routes that cover a longer stretch of the region.

Ridge, Landscape and Local History

On the Chemin du Jura, the ridge itself serves as a landmark: it also forms the boundary with the Doubs Regional Nature Park. After crossing it, the stage descends to the hamlet; views over the Clos du Doubs and its steep slopes define this section. Near Seleute, a continuation runs along paved roads and forest tracks past farms towards St-Ursanne, opposite the Doubs.

The history can also be traced through specific places. The chapel of Seleute was built in 1888 and 1889 and is dedicated to Notre-Dame du Sacré-Coeur; Mass is celebrated there monthly. The oldest cross in the municipality stands in Seleute at a place called Pierre Fontaine and bears the year 1687. Another cross is located within the municipality at Le Monnat. It was erected in 1890 and bears a figure of Christ made of white metal.

Rental Hut and Regional Produce

The Cabane de Seleute is a rental hut in the village. It measures 150 square metres and is equipped for picnics both indoors and outdoors; a grill is also available. The hut is directly accessible by car. Check the access route before travelling and confirm availability before making firm plans to use the hut.

For a regional meal break, the Auberge de La Fontaine is associated with produce such as Petit Lard, farmhouse ham and wild apples. The specific selection may vary. Seleute can therefore be included in your travel plans for its trails and cultural sites as well as its local rental and dining options.
